IMO, Pence is just as culpable for 1/6 as his Dear Leader, in several ways.
For starters, he should have followed the instructions of his USSS detail & evacuated the complex, optics be damned.
Reportedly, JFK decided against using the car's hardtop on the day he was killed.
Pence took it upon himself to risk the lives of other people for the sake of his preferred political narrative.
The right judgment call would have been to respect the superior skills, knowledge, and available intel of the USSS. I don't buy the lie that he couldn't trust them.
Undoubtedly, Pence knew full well that violence that day was likely (we all knew that, because it was discussed in plain sight for weeks. I predicted it 7 days prior, and have the receipts.)
He ALSO knew what the coup plotters had planned! They told him, repeatedly.
Pence deserves ZERO praise for merely doing one part of his job on 1/6.
He failed to do several other parts of his sworn duty that day, by failing to alert the public beforehand, with what he KNEW was planned.
He is so utterly selfish and depraved.
Pence is also dumb, bc he pretends he has a future in politics, when his 1/6-related actions & omissions have drawn the ire of the left AND the right.
The maga base hated him from the start. Plenty of receipts for that. All anti-maga folk know he cannot be trusted.
The defeated former president rejected the expert advice of the USSS multiple times, prob from the start of his protection by them as a candidate.
We have now clearly seen that the defeated former VP did the same, on at least one day of his tenure.
The issue is important bc:
Clearly, candidates and elected officials lack the expertise to override USSS advice on serious matters.
If they feel they can't trust the USSS, that should be a red flag in itself. About them, not the USSS.
I do have concerns about the USSS, but they are becoming resolved...
IMO the main reason the USSS has had a number of scandals and incidents over the past decade is insufficient funding to maintain the level of professional service the public needs.
USSS failures are a major national security threat.
Along with maga-fascism in general.
The American people must get tougher on corrupt elected officials like Pence and T****, & on any & all LEOs that fail in their duty to the country.
There must be no more presidents declining the hardtop, or VPs refusing to evacuate.
Pence has many more questions to answer.
All good points. I would add that, Pence would have known that he didn't need to be physically in the building in order to resume the count and complete the task. There was a deputy available. Also, they could have reconvened elsewhere, too.
J/s, the choices available to Pence at the moment when he allegedly decided not to evacuate the Capitol complex entirely, were wider than just go - or stay, as the only way to complete the count.
And in the week prior, he failed to alert the public.
The physical security of any person, especially a VP and his entourage, must come before considerations of completing a task like certifying an election.
Far greater damage would have been done to the country if any of them were injured, or worse.
Zero sympathy for Pence.
In the 17 or so blessed months since I got free of the cult (by seeking answers to the questions arising in my mind), Ms @OliviaTroye has been an excellent source of info on 1/6, the big lie, and all that made these seditious crimes possible. She had a front row seat...
I can assess a former T**** admin employee's true patriotism and integrity by looking at the date they left and went public with the facts and their understandable concerns.
Troye didn't hold back her intel for a book. She stood up BEFORE the election bc here, #RightMatters.
Troye worked in a senior role for Pence, until August 2020.
As a policy-wonk peer of mine, her homeland security, counter terrorism, and pandemic response-related policy advice record shows she is an intellectual giant.
I, too, once gave up a promising role in governmental policy advice because I could no longer participate in decision making that was deceptive and against the national interest.
Whistleblowers like Troye are so important in a functioning democracy. It takes immense courage.
I raise the issue here because of @OliviaTroye 's Twitter bio quote:
"The truth hurts but silence kills."
Several innocent people died because of 1/6, along with one of the insurrectionists (by definition, not innocent.) But that's a whole 'nother thread...
The silence and omissions of Mike Pence (over many years and ongoing) are just as dangerous as his words and deeds. Arguably, they are more dangerous than the conduct of even T**** and his henchmen.
Because like them, he would do it all again. And he tries to appear more moral.
Don't be fooled by the silver fox.
Don't be fooled by anyone, ever again!
YOU are responsible for deciding who you can trust. We can all do with lifting our game in this regard.
Pence must be held accountable for his part in all of this.

I was one of many who said in the first few months of the pandemic that the already high rates of interpersonal violence and self-harm and indeed terrorism, would skyrocket.
Coupled with that is my longstanding concern about security inside hospital and medical facilities.
It's far too early to know enough about the Tulsa shooting to comment on it.
But mass shootings at healthcare facilities is a topic I wrote about in November 2018, below.
(NOTE: At the time I was a maga adherent. I'm certainly not now! #VoteBlueIn22)
John Cornyn, like every other Republican trying to defend the indefensible, doesn't care how bad he looks to most Americans. All he has to do is please his donors and the extremists in the base that vote for him out of fear of "communism."
One of the main reasons I switched from left to right in 2016 was my enduring support for LEOs & military.
I believed Republican lies about the subject until I saw the abject lawlessness of 1/6. A week prior, I publicly predicted violence, but not the large scale of it.
My support for Republicans had been waning after the 2020 election but it was 1/6 that pushed me out of what I had reluctantly observed was a "cult of personality."
Every R who has obstructed the restoration of the rule of law after #BidenWon, has ONGOING blood on their hands.
Blood donation is needed regularly, in every country. An eligible, healthy adult can donate up to 6 times a year.
The pandemic had the effect of reducing blood donations and so the need right now is even greater.
Some of the patients who need it are:
>Women who need a blood transfusion before, during, and after giving birth
>People of all ages with a medical need, including the elderly
>Survivors of trauma eg GSW, MVA, accidents
All need donated blood in order to survive or be healthy.
The disaster readiness messages in the above video are pertinent to people anywhere in the world, too.
There are always people who don't prepare well enough, often because they don't realize how severely a natural disaster can affect them. They rely on others to save them.
This is not a good idea anytime, but especially in the US right now.
We do have a responsibility to think of and offer help to our neighbors as best we can.
Given that cowardly so-called LEOs have waited outside a school massacre twice in the past 5 years (AFAIK), here is an idea:
Along with multiple other things, a school & it's parents could carefully design a system where parents & other adults who give a damn provide security.
I know it sounds extreme but we are in an extreme situation right now, and all lawful/ethical options must be considered on their merits or otherwise.
Meaningfully improving mental health care, making it harder to obtain guns, and hardening the target are all vital steps.
This thread is about just one of those steps: hardening the target.
Many schools have armed LEOs or other persons on site. IMO that is necessary but (evidently) not sufficient.
Having a parental team would be difficult, I know...
Obama attracted a lot of neo fascist hate for daring to hold two major events in his mind at the same time. The fact is, there are white supremacist Republican crimes against humanity happening so often now that if we only mentioned one per day, we wouldn't keep up.
And because some will no doubt attack me as if I said racism was a major factor in Uvalde, I didn't. It sure was a major factor in Buffalo, mind you.
The death of George Floyd set off a consciousness-raising trend around the world. I finally figured out some stuff:
I figured out why we need to keep pointing out that #BlackLivesMatter.
It's a big topic that stretches back to long before 1776. Contemporary racism in America's institutions and in many police departments is having a disproportionate impact on the lives of all people of color.
