#COVID19 fewer people are testing! Of the 178,462 PCR tests reported 11.5% were positive. 467 people with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital and 43 were admitted to ICU this week, but this is down from the week before.
But while #OmicronBA2 is the dominant strain #OmicronBA5 is increasing and is now 22% of isolates. This is concerning as it has the potential for more immune escape, especially for those not infected in January and with only x2 vaccine doses, you are at risk!
Only 70% of Australians have had x3 #COVIDVACCINE There were sadly 80 COVID-19 deaths reported this week. All were eligible for a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine but only 49 (61%) had received a third dose.
But then there is #Influenza of the 43,884 tests conducted for influenza at sentinel labs, positive tests remained were 16-17%.
14% of emergency department presentations requiring a hospital admission had an acute respiratory illness, similar to 15% in the previous week.
The proportion of presentations that were admitted to hospital was highest for people aged 65 years and over (53%), 35-64 years (14%) and children aged 0-4 years (15%).
If you want to help, please: 1 Ensure you are up to date with COVID + influenza vaccines. 2. Do not go to work or school if you are unwell and do not visit vulnerable people. 3. Wear a mask inside in public places. I know it is not mandatory, but it will save someones life!
