@The1wiggin Of course, nearly ALL of this wouldn't be happening if women were codified as "persons" and "citizens" into the US Constitution and guaranteed the same rights as male persons/citizens accordingly. But the ERA was shot down in 1980 & never resurrected & passed. 3/x

Of the jobs I CAN do despite my disabilities, ALL require a car to do the job. Not just get TO the job, but DO the job (like food delivery, home health aide/care companion - 2 examples for starters)
@PalestineMATH @7into22 @KwaiChangCaine @PFleeceman @IzzyBolden @HellionHellfire @powermetalchick @TisDoney @scottsantens @Yangmentum And of the work opportunities that otherwise would be available to someone like me with the disabilities I have, many require not only a car BUT a fully-functioning computer & peripherals as well. And a smart phone. Can't earn ANY income without ALL of those things today.

Even if it's a call center job or fast food job on a bus route that don't take you 3 hours to get there by bus, but you'd be left hanging if you're kept at your job past the time of the last bus home.

I'm a POOR RURAL WOMAN who is 55, diabetic & disabled w/ $0 income, no living family for help, caring for my 79 yr old husband - a disabled retired foundry worker. Car broken down since Feb. Need $2K to get it fixed so it's drivable.
@7into22 @KwaiChangCaine @PFleeceman About a month after the catalytic converter and ABS/traction & steering control went on the car, my computer & display w/ built-in webcam, speakers & mic got bricked by a freak fluke from a macOS update that caused an OS Bridge/T2 chip failure leaving me unable to do anything.
@7into22 @KwaiChangCaine @PFleeceman The cost for getting my car fixed: $2000. The cost for repairing/replacing my computer & peripherals: Another $2K. That's a total of $4K I don't have. Not including the fact of having NO income & no way of earning any with NOTHING working so I have something to "keep trying" with

@ki676love @wildwoerhle @WarriorWomanDr @FatherlyHQ Move & live WHERE & ON WHAT MONEY?!? I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY!! NO INCOME!!!! And after trying & trying & trying EVERYTHING I was ABLE TO throughout my life (I'm now old) only to have NOTHING work out for me, I'm DONE trying. I don't stand a chance & have anything left to try with!

Even if some more fortunate people w/ lots of money took pity on me & helped me w/ enough $$ to move to a different area, things STILL wouldn't work out for me. I'm old, disabled, not smart enough at anything to be able to be successful.
@ki676love @wildwoerhle @WarriorWomanDr @FatherlyHQ I struggle at my age (and w/ a learning disability) unable to grasp technologies. I can't learn complicated stuff like video editing, or anything else tech. At least, nowhere near fast enough & good enough to be able to compete. Now I'm old, diabetic & *physically disabled*, too.

@patrickadownes @Infosec_Taylor Before the Medicaid Expansion under the ACA, I had that same injury happen to me in 2005. I cut my arm and needed 5 stitches from getting injured trying to wrangle scrap metal just to get money for food. My ER bill: $15,000 USD. And this was at a Catholic "non-profit" hospital.
@patrickadownes @Infosec_Taylor Having NO stable income because of getting NO chances for jobs that even paid almost a living wage (nevermind healthcare & a 401(K)!) despite having struggled against dyslexia, poverty & homelessness to earn a Math degree, my disabled husband & I naturally couldn't pay the bill.
@patrickadownes @Infosec_Taylor So that Catholic hospital (St. Vincent) with its own private "charity care program" SUED my husband & I, to force the sale of our run-down home on the poor side of town to pay that ER bill - nearly making us homeless with nowhere to go, no family for help to take us in.

@BasicBc My biggest gripe w/ UBI activists who are NOT poor & who have a platform (and the resources/equipment to make podcasts/videos, etc.) NEVER raise the issue of being too poor to start work to counter the erroneous claims that giving poor people money discourages work.
@BasicBc If I had money to get my 15 yr old car fixed that broke down 3 weeks after buying it (taking ALL the money I had as a poor disabled & OLD woman), or fix my computer & display which stopped working correctly after trying to update my macOS after installing OBS, I'd be able to work
@BasicBc I'll be getting a small income tax return in 2 weeks, according to H&R Block. But it won't be enough to get either my car fixed OR my computer & display fixed/replaced. We haven't had enough income since Sept to pay for heat, electric, water. NOBODY is helping us (no kids).
