A big difference between then & now is utilities were publicly controlled & price-capped—so utilities didn't shoot up by 250%. No one froze to death or died of heat stroke bc they couldn't pay utility bills. 1/ @debwillis @FleischmanSteve @Dad_of_Legend Another big difference is that there was a lot more help for people. Social programs for the poor weren't cut until Reagan. There were more jobs to go around for everyone—unlike today. But women & blacks were discriminated against for good jobs w/ health benefits & pensions. 2/

I cut my arm and needed 5 stitches from getting injured trying to wrangle scrap metal just to get money for food. My ER bill: $15,000 USD.
