Taking away #reproductiverights during the climate crisis era is inhumane & is a DIRECT attack on vulnerable populations as #climatechange impacts such as drought & extreme weather already disproportionately affect women & girls.
Here's how:
1. Women are disproportionately impacted by displacement caused by climate change.
2. Heat stress from rising temperatures or food/resource scarcity increases gender based violence.
3. Changes in the natural environment can worsen maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Increased heat, loss of crops, air/water pollution, drought, and salinated water all impact, either directly or indirectly, the nutrition of a mother and her child.
4. Climate change and extreme weather events such as floods, wildfires, mudslides, hurricanes, etc., can disrupt access to essential sexual and reproductive health services and disrupts health systems putting mothers and soon to be mothers at risk.
The bottom line: people need control of their bodies to respond and adapt to climate change. As climate justice advocates and organizers we MUST included sexual and reproductive health and rights in our climate justice work and in the policies we are championing.
