I am absolutely speechless. ⁦@sfchronicle⁩ what in gods name are you doing?

“We should reassure the public that #LongCovid can be prevented through vaccination. Studies w/ controls suggest that vaccination reduces risk of long COVID significantly.” sfchronicle.com/opinion/openfo…
I literally want to scream.

This @sfchronicle piece from @MonicaGandhi9 is without a doubt the most dangerous piece of #LongCovid misinformation to date.

The best study to date on vax below explains why. @sfchronicle please revoke that paragraph.
washingtonpost.com/health/2022/05…
VACCINES DO NOT PREVENT LONG COVID. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD.
@Bob_Wachter I guess you lied about your wife being vaccinated??
@fi_lowenstein @LisaAMcCorkell ~ Any ideas on how to properly report this & formalize a request for retraction?
I honestly don’t know what’s worse: the conspiracy that only vaccinated people get #LongCovid or that only unvaccinated people get #LongCovid

The frustrating thing is the former is from #4chan and the latter is from @UCSF ~ but they are both equally dangerous misinformation.

It's surreal to read what has likely caused my severe, suffocating, debilitating #LongCovid breathlessness for 2 years.

"A team of researchers zeroed in on microscopic abnormality the way oxygen moves from the lungs into the blood vessels of LC patients"
globalnews.ca/news/8950820/l…
“'Those feelings of breathlessness are completely consistent with our finding that we’re not moving the oxygen as efficiently as we should'

Many #LongCovid sufferers have been stumping Docs as to what’s wrong with them.. routine clinical tests come back with normal readings."
"Using an MRI technique five times as sensitive and has five times the spatial resolution of a CT scan, the researchers were able to see how tiny branches of air tubes in the lungs were moving oxygen into the red blood cells of their patients."

• The @NCHStats just found 20% of American adults (20+ million) currently have #LongCovid.

• The @CDCgov concluded the number was 1 in 5 from a separate study.

• Best meta-analysis to date found it to be 20%+

With current spread, how many will have LC this time next year?

“Researchers are due to begin trials to explore whether blood thinners may help those who had the disease.

Research from South Africa suggests people with #LongCovid have #microclots, while studies in the UK suggested a third have clotting abnormalities.” theguardian.com/society/2022/j…
“Prof Ami Banerjee, of University College London said it was known that a Covid infection increases the risk of blood clots, and that people who have had the disease have a greater risk of related conditions including stroke, heart attacks and deep vein thrombosis.”
“The Stimulate-ICP trial will split 4,500 people with #LongCovid into four groups in which participants are allocated usual care, antihistamines, an anti-inflammatory or an anti-clotting drug for three months.”

I honestly understand the visceral urge to move past the pandemic & return to normal, but right now everyone is 100% a sitting duck for developing #LongCovid

We’re not going to move past this by minimizing or ignoring it, we can only move past it by treating & preventing it.
By everyone I literally mean everyone. The degree to which **any type of person** is at very high risk is staggering.

Right now overwhelming evidence points to 1 in 5 infected develop #LongCovid

The absolute most conservative est. is 1 in 20.

Medically rare event: 1 in 1000
At the current pace of research, we’re looking 3-5 years for treatments. There is no meaningful active clinical trials for #LongCovid. Every single citizen of the earth should be screaming about this - Because THIS is what’s stopping you from living a truly normal life.

"But researchers can make progress helping #LongCovid patients before they have nailed down a neat & tidy explanation for the condition. Scientists have several good hypotheses about how to treat the problems.. & can be tested without inventing new drugs."
washingtonpost.com/business/faste…
"Consider, for example, the theory that persistent lurking virus poses problems, for example, by prompting the immune system to react.. A growing body of research offers support to this theory."
"In one recent study of blood samples taken from people with #LongCovid, researchers detected coronavirus spike proteins over the course of several months in 60% of patients.. Walt, says it has generated more initial interest than any paper he’s put out in his career."
