Stop mansplaining the #MMDA Stop thinking tis part of the religion.

Do us all a favour, go read Quran and Hadith from the beginning to the end and see if MMDA makes any sense.

Dowry is prohibited in Islam, yet MMDA has it as kaikuli/dowry.

Islam says bride's consent is necessary but MMDA doesn't even let the bride SIGN😱

Islam says monogamy is most preferred and polygamy is subjected to certain conditions and allowed only under certain situations, but MMDA has unconditional polygamy.

Islam says husband needs the permission of the wife to conduct a polygamous marriage (subject to conditions) but under the MMDA, no such thing. Men marry other women without their wife's knowledge.

Islam has equal grounds for divorce when it comes to the husband or wife. But divorce provisions under MMDA is unequal. Men can divorce without a reason while women have to prove the reasons.

MMDA's injustice affects mostly women from underprivileged fams, rural areas who have NO access to MONEY or INFLUENCE.

If you hail from a rich, influential family/ have enough money to keep the Quazi happy or you have connections...then MMDA is just & amazing :)

MMDA was not presented to Sri Lanka on a platter by Allah.

It was exported from the Batavian (Indonesian) code of marriage and divorce in 1770.

It went through some modification in 1951. And the code of law it was taken from has undergone numerous modifications.

Islam's core teaching lies in its equality- everyone is equal as God's creation, irrespective of gender, wealth, social status etc
