One thing we are concerned about in schools is when 'diversity' stokes 'division.'
The teaching of political and ideological views as fact is not the place of schools. This is not education, it is indoctrination.

"Instructed to view their humanity through the distortive lens of “white supremacy,” California’s teen girls are seeking refuge in puberty blockers, testosterone injections, and double mastectomies"
Excellent analysis by @LeorSapir on Californian schools.

When schools get adolescents fired up about a social justice issue - particularly one they have already heard a one-sided account of online and in the media - it sets pupils up as either the goodies or the baddies. Righteous anger then justifies bullying.
transgendertrend.com/transgender-id…
Schools need to be aware of what teenagers are accessing online and learning through the media. If there is a contentious issue schools must present the opposing views fairly.
The Education Act 1996 ensures political impartiality in schools and the the government has reinforced this principle in recent guidance.
Schools have no excuse.

Important new paper by a physician and chair of the Scottish Council on Human Bioethics looking at the Keira Bell case and the issue of whether adolescents can give informed consent to treatment with puberty blockers.

"The child who takes PBs, will almost certainly have life changing and irreversible physical side effects, which could be greatly regretted in the future."
"It is of concern that in Bell v Tavistock [2020] the defendants from GIDS, to the surprise of the court, could give no evidence of ever considering even one of the children referred to the clinic as Gillick incompetent."

WPATH, against growing international consensus, recommends dropping age for cross-sex hormones to 14 and double mastectomy to 15.
WPATH is not an official health body, but publishes “standards of care” which the Tavistock follows.
thetimes.co.uk/article/give-i…
WPATH standards of care v 8 is not published yet but is due out this year. Version 8 includes new chapters 'Assessment and Therapeutic Approaches of Non-Binary' and 'Applicability of the Standards of Care to Eunuchs.'
David Bell said: “This is a call upon clinicians to abandon their clinical responsibility to a child and to submit to an ideological agenda which is harmful to children. This group is making claims that have no evidential basis."

We have been reading the report 'Britons and Gender Identity', a very useful analysis of the British public’s attitudes to gender identity and trans equality from @Moreincommon_.
Our thoughts below.
Thread.
moreincommon.org.uk/our-work/resea…
Overall, the British public is accepting, tolerant & fair. No 'anti trans' sentiment or 'hate' comes across, but people do have concerns about rights of other groups, especially in sports & medical transition of children - just like us & other groups campaigning on these issues.
There is no mention of the way in which those of us who raise these issues are vilified and debate has been shut down. Would the British public have more concerns if both sides of the debate had been presented openly rather than one side being represented as bigots?

NHS England has commissioned Chelsea & Westminster Hospital to provide "masculinising surgical treatment for patients with gender dysphoria."
This means double mastectomies for 17+ teenage girls & young women who identify as 'trans' or 'non-binary.' 1/

What does "Gender Affirmation Surgery" mean? How have we constructed cutting off a girl's breasts as 'affirmation'?
Where are the clinical studies to show this is safe and effective treatment?
Where is the evidence base?
All we have is Lord Winston's 2017 testimony.

"23% of people who have their breasts removed “feel uncomfortable with what they’ve done.”

“What I’ve been seeing in a fertility clinic are the long-term results of often very unhappy people who now feel quite badly damaged."

Why do some health authority areas in the UK have much higher referral rates to the Tavistock than others?
Blackpool, Brighton, S. Devon...what is going on in these areas that is fueling the gender dysphoria contagion particularly in teenage girls?
thetimes.co.uk/article/gender…
Which trans schools guidance is promoted by local authorities? What local & national LGBTQ+ support groups are operating in the area? Is the local NHS trust a Stonewall Diversity Champion? Are the ideas about 'gender identity' children are learning online reinforced everywhere?
Are there higher than average rates of mental health issues for children in these areas? Are they deprived areas, are there above average numbers of children in care?

*New study*
5 year study shows 94% persistence rate in socially transitioned children.
Compare with around 20% persistence under 'watchful waiting' approach.
"...transgender youth who socially transitioned at early ages continued to identify that way."
publications.aap.org/pediatrics/art…
"Five years later, at the study’s end, 94% were living as transgender and almost two-thirds were using either puberty-blocking medication or sex hormones to medically transition."
apnews.com/article/scienc…
"The present study examined the rate of retransition and current gender identities of 317 initially-transgender youth (208 transgender girls, 109 transgender boys; M=8.1 years at start of study) participating in a longitudinal study, the Trans Youth Project."
