1.History of #Caste census start with Colonial India, as Britishers were great record keeper. They started #caste census.
1872- First #Caste Census was done. ( language, religion, gender, #caste etc were asked.)
1881- Second #Caste census ,it was done all-over India at once.

2. Total 17 questions were asked including #Caste.
1891-Third #Caste census.
1901-Fourth #Caste census. In year 1902 #Sahu_Ji_Maharaj reserved 50% seat for NON BRAHMINS. ie for OBC ,SC and ST candidates.

3. 1911-Fifth #Caste census.
1921- Sixth #Caste census.
1931- Seventh #Caste census. It was a last census when #Caste data were collected. Government of India rely 90 year old data to frame policies, for upliftment of particular Caste .

4. 1941- 8th #Caste census not completed because of 2nd world war.
1951- 9th #Caste census , India became free and Constitution was made.
NEHRU CABINET- decided we will census without asking #Caste as we are going to be modern Nation, but for SC and ST it will be continued.

5. Under Article 340- appointment of commission to investigate the condition of backward classes.
"The president may by order to appoint a commission consisting of such person as he thinks fit to investigate the condition of SOCIALLY and EDUCATIONALLY backward classes with in

29 January 1953 "KAKA KALELKAR" commission was set up, commission took #caste as key factor for backwardness.
In 1961, the Centre decided not to draw up any list of the OBCs. The states were advised to draw up their own lists using economic criteria.

7.Rather than going by #Caste , a number of states decided to use the criteria of occupation and income to classify backward groups.
1961- 10 th Census #Caste was not counted.
1971- 11th Census #Caste was not counted.
But in year 1979 -#MorarJi Desai government set up commission.

8. "Mandl Commission" came in existence. officially commission was named as "SOCIALLY and EDUCATIONALLY BACKWARD CLASSES COMMISSION" (SEBC) on 1 January 1979.
The commission was chaired by an MP B P Mandal.
The commission submitted its report on 31 December 1980.

9. 1981- 12th Census #Caste was not counted.
August 7 ,1990 Prime minister #VPSingh announced before the both houses of parliament that OBC will get 27% reservation in central government jobs and Public sector units.
1991- 13th census #Caste was not counted.

10. On June 1996 #HD Dewegowda became Priminister , On December 1996 Dewegowda Cabinet approved #Caste census.
#Atal bihari vajpayee becomes Priminister for 13 days, and his Cabinet disapproved #Caste census.
#OBC development fund created without counting them.

11. 2001- 14 census #Caste was not counted. On June 7th 2010 after a long discussion in parliament there was common understanding that #Caste will be counted ,in 2011 census. But suddenly cabinet rejected the idea of #Caste census, and came with new idea of "SECC".
