what does biz dev look like?
(founders edition)
π§΅π
do you ever wonder how
partnerships are formed?
networks established?
talent retained?
deals made?
a recap of my personal journey at #NFTNYC2022 and why every founder should consider going to a live event.
(in chronological order of events)
lets dive!
1. find your fam.
web3 is all abt being collaborative.
grow, learn and build tgt.
build your own community, but also be immersed in other communities. after-all, we are the grassroots of the industry and we can make a difference on how others perceive and onboard into web3.
.@KeithGrossman does a fabulous job curating the builders, creators and artists of web3.
this is also where invaluable network is being built.
ie, met michael whose in charge of nft division for sports illustrated, who also now knows @thelittlesnft π bit.ly/3bnHmjV
2. nurture your own fam.
nothing, can replace in person interaction.
this is where ppl can validate your character, see your vision and feel your passion.
this is where trust is being built and relationships strengthens.
the most common feedback for our @thelittlesnft meetup was authenticity. our community has this shared value of just being real and awesome.
no one is going to feature or talk about u.
in order to get noticed, invest in a PR firm to help you rise above the noise. this is how you get recognized and build reputation, which some day will become quite useful.
(sooner than we thought... π€«π)
pr can be in the form of written articles, podcast, even live tv. very difficult to track direct ROI. however, can definitely open up lots of doors for you. its all abt more touch points.
ie. we have ppl joining the @thelittlesnft fam after learning more from podcasts
4. just show up.
never have expectations and just keep showing up. when you start having expectations, then you will start weighing the pros and cons and may choose not to participate.
this may be your once in a life time opportunity.
so just show up.
speaking at the @timepieces event to hundreds of other attendees in the theatre along side with legendary @pablostanley, i had zero expectations.
yet, this may be the most impactful talk + dinner of the trip. sharing seats with the head of one of the biggest animation houseπ€
5. team is everything.
in an industry that is so demanding, every single day, your team is always under tremendous amt of stress and there is never a shortage of work. which is why bringing the team tgt to bond and celebrate IRL is such a necessity to go even further.
afterall we are all human.
not just mods, designers, devs, avatars, builders behind slack, discord & emails. nth beats having a drink, sharing a pizza and jamming IRL on the audacious vision and goals we have yet to accomplish for @thelittlesnft!
(personal baby funds usedπ€«)
6. focus on one thing.
founders, you are repping one thing and one thing only. you have to be the biggest cheerleader for your project and its your duty to share that vision with others. you will be repeating yourself over and over again until your throat is gone, then some.
no one knows your story, your passion, your vision as well as you do. so you must speak abt it over and over again with the same heart. thats why any speaking opportunity that lands my way, im on it.
this is mrkting - organically.
7. dinners are underrated.
apefest vs dinner - which one would you choose?
always rmb ur job there is not to have fun, but to biz dev. thats why always choose a dinner with great ppl over partying. have great convos with great ppl and this is where your network builds.
much appreciate @ericosiu for always hosting the best dinners with the highest calibre of founders, builders and creatives. a room full of collaborative energy and partnerships. 100% worth missing out on snoop + eminem on.
there are those who are in it to take and put you down. there are also those who are willing to put their neck out for you. recognize the real ones and be thankful/grateful for them.
quick story of @MerinoPierina the real one.
brought us into the sandbox/tiesto event, vip/backstage area, + the entire venue just to hunt down "XXX" to introduce me to. we failed, but just really shows the type of person she is.
thank you.
9. say yes.
opportunity does not just show up when you want it to. it appears in all sorts of sizes/shape/time.
so when one shows up, you say yes, despite your own schedule (cancel them) or knowing the results (zero expectations).
i met danni in LA through @DrT3r3sa. she msged me to meet with her team in nyc and i dropped everything to just show up. zero expectation b/c sometimes is all abt timing. the rest will fall into place. danni has been an incredible supporter since the beginning. thank you!
10. give, give, give.
as counter intuitive as it may feel, giving is the best thing that you can do.
your knowledge, your resources, your contact.
web3 is all abt being collaborative and the more you give, the more you shall receive, in ways you may not expect. its real.
in ways that we've never expected to return, this picture sums it all up.
learning/collaborating with the best in class of IP.
vince - ex head of crunchyroll, kendrick of anime metaverse, mizuno + minoru-san of captain tsubasa + founder of @thelittlesnft π
11. SHOW UP AGAIN!
im tired just by writing this thread... but despite how tired and under you are, you've just got to b/c you are on a mission. no one is there to tell you otherwise.
you've just got to show up b/c all it takes is one convo.
towards the end of this trip, my body was exhausted and my throat completely gone. had a choice to stay home or head to another dinner.
struggle is real. voice is there.
no one would know b/c no one cares...
thankfully i headed out, b/c thats where i've learnt so much from @SinjinDavidJung og of the gaming industry + james VC for @NCSOFT who actually recognizes @thelittlesnft ! π€·ββοΈ and now we are talking..
so there you go, biz dev for founders.
behind all the parties, dinners, pictures, are real builders trying to get the word out there of their project.
this is how/where connections form, partnership build, investments made.
i hope you enjoyed this little recap of NFT NYC for us.
aside from jojo making rounds to over +14 locations ard nyc with +1000s of interactions, we've also made some really great new friends and partnerships with.

5 ways to get the most out of IRL events!
(veecon edition)
π§΅π
sharing my personal experience so you can get the most out of @NFT_NYC
these principals are combined from my experience at @NFTLAlive + @veecon
hopefully, with these u can develop some meaningful relationships and build some impactful projects in web3!
lets dive π
1. be authentic
- ideas are a dime a dozen, it really comes back down to who you, the founder is.
- ultimately ppl do business with ppl.
- no need to be who you are not.
"bet on the jockey, not the horse."
rings even more true in web3.
lately i've had hesitation from posting much on twitter. aside from focus on building head down, i think the bigger reason is b/c of the fear of unconstructive comments.
ie. "oh ur project floor is dropping, get back to work!"
i know this isn't necessary personal to me, but rather overall nature of the industry.
so instead i focus on diving deep into our community to have a closer pulse of whats going on and their sentiment. really uncovering the root cause.
disclaimer:
this is just me sharing my personal experience as a founder. the ups and the downs. the crazy emotional rollercoaster, which ultimately lead to a panic episode.
full intent to share behind the scenes so you know what to expect, the story behind the glory.
the launch
- mths working around the clock on all aspects of building a project. from artwork, to marketing, to tech, to logistics, to community.
- everything needs to be perfect for a flawless launch.
- once you pass the finish line, things become real.
