2/ To establish Technical Influence, don’t be afraid to show your engineers what you don’t know. Sit down with them and ask them to walk you through their workflows. How do they maintain infrastructure? What languages do they use? Put yourself into their shoes.
3/ To establish Technical Influence, earn an engineer’s respect by showing that you have a well rounded understanding in your area of expertise and that you have a set of well-defined goals you want to achieve. Back your hypotheses with data and ask them to partner with you.
4/ Sit (when in person) close to the engineers, invest in building rapport and a personal relationship with them. Truly partner with them. Understand what motivates them, what stresses them & also their perspective in the product and future of the company - help wherever you can
5/ Dive as deep as you feel comfortable with the eng side of your product. Don’t be afraid of it, challenge yourself a bit more every time you are exposed to the technical aspects - this will go a long way. But, be careful though now to overdo it.
