I used to trust Juan, aka @reduzio. Never again. This manipulator cannot be trusted. I'm talking about this as someone who has spent years contributing to @GodotEngine.
Whatever you decide to do with Godot, please, do not give money to them.
If you're not aware of manipulation techniques, you'll instantly believe Juan, since he is very skillful in gaslighting. So skillful to the point that what you see on the fragment above must be broken down into smaller pieces and be explained in detail.
I am an open and honest person. But in a community-driven project, where Godot explicitly mentions that "community-driven" implies "open discussion", Juan wants to feel me guilty for being an open person, which is ridiculous.
Openness must be at the heart of #FOSS projects by definition. It's impossible to reach any consensus if people don't feel that they can be open and honest while discussing decisions of any kind. Otherwise this will lead to compromises, and eventual division of community.
Therefore, by being an open person, I do so for the benefit of the project. But being honest has a serious consequence in an hypocritical #OpenSource project such as Godot. This implies the desire in search for the truth, but some subset of truth cannot be tolerated in Godot.
I never wanted to instantiate a democratic development process in Godot. Most projects are based on some kind of meritocracy. I used to think that it was just a misunderstanding, but I figured that Godot leadership is disingenuous in what they do:
As Juan says, it may be all entirely true and I may be right, but the results do not change. Despite my attempts at clarifying things like Godot's development philosophy, they still refuse to reveal it, and many other people share my sentiment in Godot:
I never called Godot's leadership evil or corrupt at that time. I used to think that their intentions are good, so I thought that it'd be just a matter of time for them to resolve all so-called misunderstandings. But never was I so mistaken in my life.
I never asked for any privileges or trust. I received maintainer privileges only once in Godot, and I thought that it was due to my merit, but in retrospect, leadership decided to quickly remove my membership, because they couldn't bribe me with that:
Godot constantly mentions the "trust" word. They are literally obsessed with it. It was never about "bottom-up" approach of community-driven development, but "top-down" approach. You only get trusted if you never question the decisions of leadership:
Am I trying to overthrow an evil and toxic leadership of Godot now? Since they decided to permanently ban me from all Godot community spaces, yes. Toxic leadership must be challenged. I'm not kidding, see the recommendation here:
Godot is #OpenSource, but it doesn't mean that the mentality of Godot is open. They use their corporate IT consulting processes to drive Godot's development. It's not community-driven. They see volunteers as a service (VaaS) to companies.
Godot founders, Juan and Ariel, created a company called Codenix, a game development and technology consulting company. Godot as an in-house engine used to be developed and licensed to various companies up until 2014. web.archive.org/web/2014062509…
Juan, aka @reduzio, the lead developer of #GodotEngine, tells that Ukraine has a will to be annexed to Russia. This is a completely ridiculous and idiotic statement! Ukrainians do not want to be annexed to Russia! Learn to spell "Ukraine" first! #StandWithUkraine
Juan is from Argentina, no wonder why he said that he doesn't see me representing Ukrainians in Godot! Juan would rather want Russia to annex Ukraine to prevent "disheartening" feelings. We fight for our freedom. And I challenge Godot's toxic leadership!
And this happens at the time when Godot's toxic leadership tolerates abusive and offensive conduct of a Russian member in Godot... This is unacceptable!
I posted at #GameDev subreddit describing my experience in Godot community. As expected, moderators immediately removed it. I presented it as a postmortem experience, and I have followed the rules, but they permanently banned me from /r/gamedev.
Before removal, someone said that my feedback is unhelpful. I replied that I cannot make it factual, otherwise my post may be deleted, just like it happened with my previous post that moderators deleted two month ago:
If you scroll down, you'll read a testimony of someone who actually agreed to what I've described (Godot is a cult). Usually, these kind of comments also get heavily downvoted on Reddit, and this is a consistent pattern I've noticed two months ago as well:
Commenting on "what's wrong with that" regarding free labor:
The lead developer Juan Linietsky (@reduzio) wrote that there's "true meritocracy" in Godot. But if you ask him directly, he says that everything is based on trust, and "not meritocracy":
The Russian member and maintainer of @godotengine, called @YuriSizov, aka pycbouh, and other people like him, will destroy Godot faster than me. Let me explain why.
Russian maintainer, @YuriSizov, joined Godot community in 2020 or so. While Godot already had problems with its governance, @YuriSizov exacerbated it further. In fact, the reason why Godot leadership accepted him was mostly because of his toxic behavior towards Godot users.
I know the above sounds like a contradiction, but since Godot is governed by top-down, autocratic approach, toxic leadership thrives in Godot:
Even after quitting the Godot cult, sometimes I still find it difficult to believe that I used to participate in Godot cult in the first place... That's when you know how strong the brainwashing could get.
Godot leadership cannot kill you physically. But if you get indoctrinated by Godot followers and express critical thinking, you'll get emotionally abused: "you should not talk this way", "this is your last warning", "if you keep doing this, you'll be permanently banned".
Threats like above can really fuck up the brains of adolescents, and I suspect that there's a lot of younger people who use Godot at the moment. These kind of threats are disproportionate to the situations that arise at hand. And what for? Make people obedient? At what cost?
