7) It's hard to know what a firm/org is "like" just by visiting their website or reading their marketing materials. Try reaching out to a current summer or articling student to get the scoop on the job. Or read their lawyers' tweets ;) #torontorecruit#lawstudents

8) The process is mostly about #s and mindgames, unfortunately. Don't do things just because others are doing them. Don't forget why you went to law school. Don't base your happiness and self-worth on what strangers think of your stats. #torontorecruit#lawstudents

An anecdote to show how arbitrary/archaic OCIs can be: One of my interviews consisted 100% of pro sports talk. It was so novel that I was conversant in an area that normally attracts *ahem* other demographics. Zero mention of my quals, but I made it to the next round. LOL.

To wrap up my #TedTalk, recruitment can be a stressful, lonely, and demoralizing experience. You're courageous just for putting yourself out there. I hope you find the job of your dreams, but even if you don't, keep your chin up and keep showing yourself/others kindness.

6) Try your best to use legal terms correctly, and ask your classmates/profs/mentors/CDO if you're unsure. While there's leeway for students because you're brand new, the lawyers who are reviewing your materials are experts in the law after all! #torontorecruit#lawstudents

1/? #lawtwitter Applications for #OCIs and the #articlingrecruit are coming up! Having done OCIs recentlyish, I have the following tips that might be helpful: 1) Trim the # of words in your cover letter by cutting superfluous adjectives/adverbs. A wall of text is intimidating.
2/?
2) Have an attention-grabbing and creative "elevator pitch" right at the outset of your letter, just so the reader gets an idea of who you are and what makes you different from hundreds of other applicants. #torontorecruit#lawstudents

3) Express your genuine interests and try to connect them with the firm/org's specialties, but avoid construing yourself as closed off to less flashy areas of law because students are often asked to do an array of things from various partners. #torontorecruit#lawstudents
