6 years ago Philando Castile was shot to death by Officer Yanez during a traffic stop. Many of us witnessed the harrowing moments on FB Live. RIP🧵
Philando Castile let Officer Yanez know in advance he had a legal firearm in the car and he wasn’t reaching for it. His girlfriend and her 4-year-old were in the car. But Yanez shot Philando anyway. #howcopsgetoff
Yanez was acquitted of manslaughter for the killing of Philando Castile. He used the magic words cops use to avoid liability, “I feared for my life.”
#howcopsgetoff
Time and again, cops say “I feared for my life.” They know, regardless of the situation, to use these words because the law protects them. This is part of the Use of Force Standard that gives cops the right to kill someone just by saying they are a threat to them. #howcopsgetoff
We made #HowCopsGetOff as a love letter to Black people. When policing practices and the legal system are designed to protect cops, the dignity of Black life cannot hinge on a verdict. True justice is Philando Castile being here with us today.
Today we debuted the 3rd #HowCopsGetOff video that explains how our criminal legal system ensures cops act above the law due to #qualifiedimmunity #useofforce standards

A little more about Georgia and #votersuppression. GA is the first state to pass an omnibus voter suppression bill after the 2020 election. It’s not surprising google.com/amp/s/www.nyti…
Georgia Republicans decided to go BIG on #VoterSuppression because Trump drew the line in the sand in GA calling on GOP leaders to ignore verified (several times) outcome and just move some votes into his column but they didn’t to save face & their butts they quickly pass SB202
Georgia Republicans have known for decades that their population was shifting w increases in Black, Latinx & AAPI but they also were banking on them staying unregistered & had Brian Kemp running elections so they had it under control #VoterSuppression

Black and Brown people dying at higher rates #coronavirus due to a confluence of issues all created by white supremacy and capitalism. Follow:
People with underlying health conditions are more vulnerable. Black & Brown people have higher rates of diabetes, heart conditions, asthma etc due to lack of access to healthcare that was privatized, healthy food but more exposure to poor environmental conditions #coronavirus
To be safe from COVID-19 people need to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. Black and Brown people can’t. They live in overcrowded housing due to high housing costs caused by greed and failure to have a right to housing in the US #coronavirus
