As #NetZeroWeek comes to a close, we want to showcase some examples of the important @UniversityLeeds research that spans the three key areas of action required to achieve net zero, and the three fundamental principles that cut across these areas.
Action area 1 - Decarbonise the energy supply
Work by Prof Mark Davis (@_ProfMarkDavis) of @SSPLeeds has enabled communities across the UK to invest in local renewable energy projects.
Prof Dom Sprakclen (@DomSpracklen) and Dr Cat Scott (@catzigle) are involved in various partnerships that are working to restore native woodlands as a nature-based route to net-zero.
Our researchers have been central in developing local Climate Commissions (including @LeedsClimateCom and @YHClimateCom) which bring together stakeholders to ensure collective responsibility for climate action.
Dr Katy Roelich (@KatyRoelich) has been developing a new approach to decision making that focuses on long-term outcomes, ensuring that infrastructure transformation is resilient to climate change.
Work by Dr Andy Ross has not only informed the development of a sustainable form of bioenergy, but also tackles an invasive plant that causes problems for communities in Uganda.
