I listen to quite a lot of podcasts to learn and stay up-to-date in psychiatry.

Here's a 🧵with some of the best:

#psychiatry #mentalhealth #podcasts
CATEGORY A: Psychiatry CPD PODCASTS
1. BRAINCAST by @maudsleylearn: Fantastic range of topics with a centre of gravity around neuropsychiatry.

Sadly stopped producing new episodes, but maybe we can persuade @Pospo to get it going again. Listen to the complete back catalogue.
2. Psychiatry & Psychotherapy Podcast: Probably the best all-round psychiatry podcast.

@DavidPuder is able to take a properly biopsychosocial perspective, taking you on a tour from drug-drug interactions to psychodynamic psychotherapy. Scientific and caring.
3. Psychopharmacology and Psychiatry Updates: From @PsychopharmInst, this gives brief (~15 min) updates on bite-sized topics in psychiatric prescribing.
4. PsychEd: educational psychiatry podcast. Produced by psych residents in Toronto to educate their peers and med students.

Does the basics really well. Worth listening to the whole back catalogue if you're starting out in psychiatry.
5. AJP Residents Journal: Interviews with a varied group of interesting psychiatrists. More focussed on 'soft' topics.
6. @MaudsleyPodcast: Often quite philosophical, but get some great interviewees and some topics quite clinically relevant.
CATEGORY B: RESEARCH
1. JAMAevidence @JAMA_current Guide to Statistics and Methods: If you want to understand how different types of research studies are conducted, this is gold dust.

What's cost-effectiveness analysis? How do you deal with multiple comparisons? This and more.
2. @TheBJPsych Journals: Some very niche topics, but if you pick what you're interested in, some very good overviews related to recently published papers.
3. @JNNP_BMJ podcast: Takes a recent paper and discusses with the author.

Sometimes new research, sometimes overview of an emerging area. Again, pick the ones that interest you.
4. @JAMAPsych Author Interviews: Good if you're interested in a specific article.
CATEGORY C: GENERAL MEDICAL PODCASTS
1. @BMJBestPractice Podcast: Obviously lots that isn't relevant here and psychiatric topics are quite superficial.

BUT very useful for brushing up on general medical topics. Did you know that asthma Mx has changed a LOT over last few years?
2. @JAMA_current Clinical Reviews: Similar to BMJ Best Practice - great overviews of clinical topics across medicine.
3. @MayoClinic Talks: Very clinically relevant discussions about a disease.

Interviewers are general physicians who are really good at picking what the generalist needs to know.
CATEGORY D: NEUROLOGY PODCASTS
1. @PracticalNeurol PN podcast: Probably the best of the neurology podcasts, as always very clinically relevant.

Some real gems recently for psychiatrists, e.g. dementia diagnosis tips, cannabis licensing, functional movement disorders.
2. Neurology Podcast (from @AANMember): Discusses a new paper.

Lots of them are relevant to psychiatry, e.g. in the last month antidepressant use in pregnancy and seizure risk in offspring, COVID brain fog, treatment of LGi1 encephalitis.
BrainWaves: a Neurology Podcast: Informal neurology podcast.

Makes complex topics very easy to listen to.
That's all I've got. Let me know if I've missed any!
