1/ Russia is a perfect example of a kleptofascist state - a hideous combination of criminal capitalism and fascist hate, lies, rabid ethno-nationalist delusions, tyranny, imperialist militarism and genocidal intent.
2/ Russia is a perfected kleptofascist state, but kleptofascist forces are active in many Western countries. A sociopathic segment of the super-rich and their political and media minions have understood that they can only gain power through using fascist political themes.
3/ The goal of the kleptofascist right was laid out by William Rees-Mogg in "The Sovereign Individual" which forecast a world in which the super-rich would first break free from national control before ultimately seizing control of nation states.

1/ The Tories were once a mass-membership party representing the middle class and ordinary British businesses. Now the Tory elite serves only itself and its super-rich paymasters. They have no vested interest in either democracy or the laws and rules that limit their power.
2/ The Tory elite is wholly detached from ordinary society. They do not see themselves as fortunate members of ordinary society, but as the (mostly) poor relatives of their super-rich paymasters. This makes them wide open to corruption.
3/ The Tory elite sees ordinary people only in terms of manipulation, whereas in the past it had to provide real benefits both economic and in the form of the rule of law and democratic representation to its middle class and ordinary business support base.
1/ Since I switched to tweeting a lot about Ukraine I've lost about 600 followers instead of gaining about 1400 a month, and there is far less interest in my tweets. It's a depressing reflection of the little English mentality of many Remainers and opposition folk.
2/ The British and Western public turned their backs on Ukraine in 2014, and on Putin and Assad's crimes in Syria. That wilful blindness led to the present disastrous war. If the public fails to show interest in Ukraine now, then something far worse is likely to follow.
3/ At a personal level it is deeply depressing to think that I could gain far more popularity by ignoring Ukraine and endlessly recycling the same old slogans about Johnson and Brexit. To me this is a sign of a terrible political sickness.
"The rabble of Gondor and its deluded allies shall withdraw at once beyond the Anduin, first taking oaths never again to to assail Sauron the Great in arms, open or secret. All lands east of Anduin shall be Sauron's for ever, solely."
2/ West of the Anduin as far as the Misty Mountains and the Gap of Rohan shall be tributary to Mordor, and men there shall bear no weapons, but shall have leave to govern their own affairs..." #StandWithUkraine
3/ One might say that it is absurd to compare Putin with a fictional character, but had governments and analysts in the West modelled his character on that of Sauron or Morgoth his actions in power would have been very unsurprising.
1/ In Blair's day political commentators were getting in a tizz over 'spin'. Brexit & Trump brought in something new and vastly more dangerous - the politics of the big Goebbelsian lie. We see it with Johnson, and Davis' 'Remainer Brexit' and we see it with Putin and Lavrov.
2/ Hannah Arendt, one of the foremost analysts of the rise of Nazism warned that lies destroy democracy. The political right today is dominated by kleptofascism - kleptocrats and their political and journalistic minions using fascist themes and techniques to seize and hold power.
3/ While those who had lived through the Nazi epoch were still active at the summit of politics it was impossible for the kleptofascist right to use the tactic of the big lie because it would have been immediately called out for what it is, namely a Nazi propaganda technique.
1/ Russia is the perfect example of a kleptofascist state. It is a hideous combination of criminal kleptocracy, and fascist hate, lies, tyranny, rabid nationalism, and brutal military aggression.
But make no mistake, the forces of kleptofascism are hard at work in the West.
2/ It is no accident that the super-rich libertarians and their political and media minions have allied with the fascists and bigots. The libertarians know that no democracy will give them their ultra-free market paradise. So their goal is to destroy democracy.
3/ The kleptocrats and their minions don't intend anything as old fashioned as a military coup. They want to follow the path laid down by Putin and Orban, of hollowing out democracy from the inside until all that is left is an empty shell, all form and no substance.
Not for one second since the referendum has Labour opposed Brexit. That failure has left the debate dominated by Brexiters, and even so, Brexit lost majority support as early as 2017, and has become gradually more unpopular ever since then.
The question that might be asked is how would support for Brexit have gone, and how would it go, if every TV debate about Brexit had to pit a Brexiter against a pro-European, rather than presenting two Brexiters? Would that have made, and would it make Brexit more popular?
It is extraordinary when you think of it that, with the two main parties backing Brexit, it has become so unpopular, and perhaps even more extraordinary that in the light of all the evidence to the contrary it is still regarded as politically invincible.
