For intel scholars: Pending authenticity check, this is similar to the "Smolensk Archive," which was taken by Nazis Germany, then by the US, offering valuable insights into the inner workings of the USSR. Why the Sudzha FSB leaks are so significant?🧵
Findings from the Sudzha leaks connect the Soviet KGB to today's FSB. Document formats—reports, questionnaires—warrant attention, showing Soviet-era terms and methods still in use, as intelligence scholars note. Notably, internal FSB documents still use the term “agents.”
The 1995 Law on the FSB refers to "persons who provide or provided assistance to the federal security service on a confidential basis." In the late Soviet years, the term “agent” was negatively perceived by society, and the KGB decided not to display the term.
