Back in #Srirangam, today is the annual Jyeshta Abhishekam for Lord Ranganatha! Once a year, the Moola Sthanam gets a traditional purification in one of the most ancient methods. Will try to do a thread if possible!
Wish I could attend it personally!
Missing it! Sigh! 🙏😓
It is a day long affair! The process of which would have begun few weeks ago! First they prepare the Thailam. But more about that later. As for today, early morning the temple elephant goes to take a dip in the Kaveri, as usual. No Vishwaroopam darshanam today.
The Sthalathars, Sthanikars, Maniyakarars of the temple recieve a special Mariyadhai first. They carry special pots to the Kaveri. 28 silver pots and one gold pot. A long procession goes from the temple to the Amma Mandapam. With the Nagaswaram and Thavil Melam.
🙏🤩🙏🤩🙏
All these pots were generous gifts from various kings. The silver pots by the Nayak kings, the gold ones, even earlier by Vijayanagara kings. They all loved Lord Ranganatha and frequently donated to the temple.
🙏🤩🙏🤩🙏
You can see how they take the pots on the elephant to the Kaveri.
🙏🤩🙏🤩🙏
At the Kaveri, after prayers and important rituals in the Amma Mandapam, the procession heads back into the temple.
🙏🤩🙏🤩🙏

Once back inside the temple, the next big set of elaborate rituals continue.
They are performed by those who have been at service for generations now...

A short video of the procession on the way back to the temple.
How I wish I was there! 🥹

Auspicious morning of Pushya Bahula Panchami on the traditional Hindu calendar. Sadguru Tyagaraja Swamy attained Siddhi in 1847 on this day. Every year, thousands of musicians and devotees come to Thiruvaiyaru to offer their tributes at his Samadhi Mandiram.
Wrestler, Trader, Ayurvedacharya, Bone-setter, staunch Vaishnava, Mysore Samsthana Raja Vaidya and finally a legendary brand in his own lifetime!
The iconic “Ustad” Kayangadi Papanna!
🤩🙏🏼🤩🙏🏼🤩
Wondering if i should put a thread! 🙆🏻♂️🤔
Papanna’s ancestors migrated from Andhra to the Mysore Kingdom about four generations before him. They belonged to the Telugu Balija community. Many members of that community migrated to the Karnataka region including the saint Kaiwaram Amara Nareyana Swamy.
For that we have to go to the great Maratha rulers of Thanjavur region. Especially the versatile King Sahaji (1684-1710). He was not only a benevolent ruler but a man of arts. He was well-versed in literature and composed musical operas in Telugu, Marathi and Sanskrit.
Sahaji was a great patron of artistes, scholars and Pundits. In 1693, he donated a village Tiruvisanallur to 46 families of learned Pundits. The village was renamed Sahajirajapuram. Great scholars of Sanskrit, Veda, Shastra and other allied traditional knowledges lived there.
