Gov. Cooper wants credit when it comes to North Carolina being named America’s Best State for Business, but for years he’s worked AGAINST legislative efforts to improve the state’s business climate. #ncpol#ncga
In 2017, Gov. Cooper vetoed a state budget that enhanced the state’s Job Development Investment Grant program, increased education spending by $700 million, and provided personal income tax cuts to all North Carolinians.
A year later he said North Carolina should freeze planned tax cuts for businesses, and in 2019 he vetoed corporate income tax cuts and reductions to the franchise tax on businesses.
Gov. Cooper talks out of both sides of his mouth when it comes to our business-friendly climate. He touts taxes, regulatory reforms, and workforce development to businesses looking to come here, but will rail against them the first chance he gets.
Businesses in Democratic states are facing increased charges to pay back money borrowed to fund unemployment benefits. That won't happen in NC thanks to GOP lawmakers.
Whether it’s through his vetoes or his rhetoric, Gov. Cooper has put partisanship ahead of pro-growth policy. In his pitch to Amazon, the governor said North Carolina has “an embarrassing uncle or two,” in reference to Republican lawmakers.
By rejecting Gov. Cooper’s spending-spree budget proposals and instead implementing responsible spending plans, Republicans made North Carolina a beacon of fiscal responsibility. It’s why CNBC reports that our “state’s credit rating is pristine; its fiscal balance is sound.”
It’s no surprise North Carolina took the No. 1 spot in CNBC’s rankings AFTER the governor decided he would sign GOP budgets, and after GOP policy helped create the best economy in the nation.

2/ Give @WRAL credit for at least being forthright about the news outlet's political activism.
The news outlet's top leader:
- Said his primary focus "between now and November is getting the vote out."
- Attributed policy differences with Republicans to racism. #ncpol
3/
- Advocated for a judge to steal $1.7 billion from other state programs over the legislature's objections.
- And even admitted he's using the Leandro education funding lawsuit as a tool to boost voter turnout. #ncpol
