Deeply disappointing that any American is defending Biden's meeting with MBS. His laughter in response to the Washington Post reporter asking about his broken promise about holding the Saudis responsible for the murder of WaPo reporter #JamalKhashoggi was shockingly unlike Biden.
If you repeatedly argued that the Trumps and Jared Kushner should not have met with the Saudis and decried Kushner's $2B deal with them, then it can't be different for Biden. Biden made a promise about holding the Saudis responsible for Khashoggi's murder. This is all about oil.
Some of us are old enough to remember that the Saudis were never held responsible for 9/11. US dependence on oil means fist-bumping with murderers of Americans. Biden isn't the 1st US president to do this. But many of us had believed he would be true to his word on this killing.
The dismissive non-apology to Jamal Khashoggi's bereaved fiancé is also not like Biden, known for his compassion. Prioritizing oil above American lives is not defensible so don't. Just last month the US was chiding Europe for taking oil from Russia despite the Ukraine invasion.
The Washington Post was right to call this meeting and Biden's comments out. There are many things to defend Biden over domestically. Not this. This wasn't just bad optics, it gave the Saudis more undeserved leverage. And excused the grisly killing of an American journalist.

Just read the latest column by Meghan McArdle with whom I spent too much time engaging on Saturday. In it she slammed Berkeley law professor Khiara Bridges as a lazy thinker, then turned the abortion debate into a referendum on Lia Thomas and extremely rare late term abortions.
1/
The way McArdle dismissed a Black woman academic's inclusionary feminism (Bridges used the term "pregnancy capable"), scuttled the actual stats on abortion and weirdly threw in Thomas to make gratuitous transphobic points was emblematic of how deeply misogynist the right is.
2/
Send. Cornyn and Hawley grilled Bridges on the personhood of fetuses and Bridges turned the argument to the personhood of someone pregnant. She tried to school Hawley on the fact that NB and trans masc people can get pregnant; he wasn't interested.

So there are 11 messages in my DMs from folks with confirmed or suspected monkeypox who either want to tell me their story or want info. Only 1 is gay. Y'all might want to read my latest story on this. And wash your hands.
Due to the CDC flubbing monkeypox despite 2+ years of COVID, there is very little testing available and most is tied to travel, which is entirely wrong. Cases are up 77% and in states as unlikely as Idaho & Iowa. The NYC vaccine website keeps crashing and Adams reemed out Biden.
WHO had every opportunity to control and contain this outbreak. So did CDC. But by stigmatizing monkeypox as either African or gay, both agencies completely missed the opportunity to control it as I wrote earlier.
Now it is in 63 countries in a month. epgn.com/2022/05/25/ana…
Bill Kristol, Frum,Rubin and other well-educated GOP are deeply invested in Biden not running in 2024 so that they can run a GOP who WILL win. Historically if the incumbent hasn't run (1968)or the incumbent has been challenged by his own party (1980)the opposition wins. 1/
Those of us who voted Biden for a Harris presidency(I am hardly alone in this) ALWAYS knew it HAD to be 2028. Harris will be up against a bazillion challengers including people from the Biden administration in 2024. She is not assured of winning in this scenario.
2/
Stop rooting for Biden to fail. You knew how old he was in 2020 and you had 25 other choices including Harris (who you didn't support enough with $ for her to get to the primary). Stop pretending that history is irrelevant and that magic can happen. Dems have to vote in 2022.

Tomorrow they are discharging The Wife from any in-home nursing care. I have fought this literally every day for two weeks to no avail. I was told that without an open wound (trach doesn't count), she doesn't qualify for nursing care of any kind.
1/🧵
The Wife has very aggressive stage 4 metastatic cancer. She is unable to bathe herself, dress herself or cook. She can't talk. She had difficulty walking. She has lost a lot of weight and is unable to eat solid food. How is it possible she doesn't qualify for care? 2/🧵
I was told that the expectation is that family members will learn all the tracheostomy care and also do any other nursing care for the patient, which is frankly lunacy. I am certainly willing to care for The Wife but I am paralyzed and can't walk.

Actually only on the last issue. White men, for example, haven't voted majority Democrat since LBJ. WW have only rarely voted majority Dem. The Democratic base remains 40% BLACK voters, with BW predominant. And Dems MUST work on expanding Latinx voter outreach every day.
Voters I am talking to in majority Black Philly and in near suburbs are focused on inflation and its real life impact on them. Then job security+ pay re: inflation, then gun violence. No one is mentioning the hearings. Most are not watching them. They already knew who Trump is.
We make a grievous error if we ignore that a HUGE swath of the Democratic party base is working poor, working class and lower middle class. Upper middle class pundits who are mostly white are not seeing or are ignoring the impact of price increases re: voter dissatisfaction.
Oh. Went away to care for my critically ill wife. Come back to find 2 buses let off in my mentions over my viral tweet about Jill Biden: empathic Dems who get addiction is a disease, and GOP MAGAs revelling in a problem 1 in 3 families has. Tell me how both parties are the same.
Addiction to drugs and/or alcohol impacts MILLIONS of Americans. There is MORE addiction in the poorer red states than in the wealthy blue ones. If you are fortunate enough to never have had a family member who has substance abuse illness, BE GRATEFUL. And learn some compassion.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 10% of US adults have "drug use disorder," also known as addiction. nih.gov/news -events/news-releases/10-percent-us-adults-have-drug-use-disorder-some-point-their-lives
