Did you know that the Peace Treaty of Edirne, stipulated between the Habsburg Empire and the Ottoman Empire, included a ban on dueling? 📜
This detail was added because of a 'bad habit' of border soldiers. Image
As early as 1526, in fact, soldiers, bored by the prolonged border truces, challenged their enemies to a duel🤺
The request was made through a formal letter, often accompanied by various gifts 🎁
However, the duels were often the scene of gambling and brawls among the spectators, therefore, the Habsburg and Ottoman governors, fearing an escalation, banned them.
