@nsitharaman and @narendramodi have heralded a blitzkrieg on the economically poor majority of India by raising GST on essential items, even as inflation and unemployment rises to all time high.
Even the middle class is suffering wage cuts, delayed salaries, allowance loss etc.
The GST council does constitute representation from all states, but the carnage we see here is directly attributable to the #ModiGovt
Here are the reasons :
*The vote of the Central Government shall have the weight of one-third of the total votes*
*The votes of the State Government shall have the weight of two-third of the total votes, cast in the meeting*
Imagine the total members in the Council are 99.
A single vote of the Central Government has a weightage of 33.
Only balance is with all the state Governments put together.
17 out of a total of 31 states are ruled by BJP/NDA Combine.
J&K is under President's rule
States like Telangana, Odisha always vote with the NDA policies because of their dependence on Central assistance.
2 states with AAP too votes in favor of BJP.
Congress has just 2 states. In Jharkhand and TN, it shares power.
Congress has just 2 states. In Jharkhand and TN, it shares power.
This 21 out of 31 states are under NDA control. Add to that 1/3rd weightage of votes with #ModiGovt
Gujarat's inequality levels have been rising since 1993-94, when its cumulative Gini index (both for rural and urban areas) was 0.279. This was the time when Gujarat began implementing the new economic policy.
Shockingly, the state’s infant mortality rate is worse than Jharkhand; it also has the fourth lowest teacher student ratio in the country.
According to the 2011 Census, poverty rate in Gujarat is 16.63 per 1 million people.
What is even more striking is that wages in Gujarat were also lower than the all-India average, suggesting that its performance in this regard was much worse than states that are much poorer.
So, while Gujarat’s per capita income was around 20% higher than the per capita income
As per India's Quarterly External Debt Report for quarter ended December 2021, the country's external debt was placed at USD 614.9 billion.
India's foreign exchange reserves is currently at $ 607.3 billion
In absolute terms, the external debt due in 2022 amounts to $273.0 billion. accounting for 43.1 percent of the foreign exchange reserves as on December 31.
India needs $620 Billion just to meet it's merchandise imports over 12 months
India's oil imports bill doubled to $ 119 Billion in 2021-22 up from $62.2 Billion in previous year.
The double whammy impact of this can be seen upon 2 aspects. USD was ₹73.2 on 31st March last year compared to ₹76.53 same date this year
Opposed to views of dissent from within and outside, its your leadership alone that can make it work for Congress.
Because to a large extent the new strategy is intra party.
Let me make a few points
1. Core Values
As long as India remains a multi Party Democracy with the right of franchise to every single citizen, the relevance of ideology, principles, and credentials of the Congress party will stay relevant.
We DO NOT Compromise or amend any of it.
2. Voters Stake
We need to communicate Loud and Clear about what stakes Voters have with the Congress.
Like in a Fixed Deposit, or an Life Insurance policy, the Voter too should know exactly what to expect during the 5 years tenure of his vote from the Congress Governments
Peace is not the absence of war, but that of violence: it is an everyday affair.
Realpolitik reasoning threatens to make political idealism seem naive & irrelevant.
But a sole focus on national safety, it should be easy to see, diminishes one's sense of belonging in the world.
Dreams of a peaceful world make for the richer moral stance: social interdependence goes beyond national territories and a future for humanity is inconceivable without worldwide cooperation.
It is this tradition that seems to have evaporated in recent years.
Nehru's humane vision of non-alignment and world peace generated idealism both outside and inside the country.
Nehru had sought to create a political culture that disapproved of military of world peace and enlargement of human freedom."
