At the inaugural Feminist Book Club event at @strandbookstore last night, Dr. Meera Shah was asked how we can fight back against abortion bans. She gave many great ideas including "Say the word 'abortion' more. Talk about it more." #AbortionIsNormal #AbortionIsHealthcare Two women sitting on either side of a big banner that reads

After the event, a woman told me it was the 30th anniversary of her abortion. I congratulated her because I remember how relieved I was after my abortions.

She told me she wished that she had a book like Dr. Shah's 30yrs ago so that she could read about other abortion stories. The cover of the book You're the Only One I've Told: The Sto
Another woman pressed several sheets of text into my hands.

"I had an abortion 50yrs ago. Weaponize this any way you need to," she told me about her story.

She knows right wing zealots weaponize shame to fuel abortion bans #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights

I understand why some want to use “pro forced birth” instead of “anti abortion,” to describe zealots behind abortion bans, but we must not shy away from the word “abortion.” I am pro abortion.
Say “abortion.” Use that word often. Shatter the silence and shame that the zealots insist on. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights #AbortionIsHealthcare
For as long as patriarchy can shroud abortion with silence it will continue to stamp it in shame. Knowing that, I broke my silence so that I could break free of shame. I am pro abortion. 📷 @rerutled feministgiant.com/p/essay-on-abo… Mona holding a sign saying ...

“Pro-life” was never accurate description of abortion opponents.

They assassinated abortion providers, set fire to clinics, stalked providers in their neighbourhoods, and terrorized people seeking abortions.

Anti-abortion terrorists is more accurate.

I’m fed up of hearing “Vote! Vote! Vote!” as the antidote to the victory of the white supremacist Christian zealots who destroyed #RoeVWade.

We need a radicalism that for too long those zealots held a copyright to.

We are on the brink of a theocracy!

Where is our radicalism?
How, when you know about voter suppression and gerrymandering, do you suggest "Vote! Vote! Vote!" as a solution? It's delusional.

And how about the fucking U.S. media develop a fucking spine. The same media that wouldn't call Trump a racist now can't call these zealots zealots.

Shatter that silence, vanquish secrecy, drag abortion out of the shadows and into the public discourse as the human right that it is. Don't let abortion opponents constrain it with the straitjacket of shame and stigma. feministgiant.com/p/essay-on-abo… #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights

First, I'll be on a virtual event by @Lighthousebks to talk about @Elias_Jahshan anthology #ThisArabIsQueer, to which I contributed an essay, excerpted here feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-de…
And then later today, for inaugural Feminist Book Club event, co-presented by FEMINIST GIANT & @strandbookstore, I'll be in conversation with Dr. Meera Shah about her book You're the Only One I've Told: The Stories Behind Abortion.

I wrote about it here feministgiant.com/p/essay-on-abo…

The very first time I saw the trailer for @allatoncemovie, I said "This is a film about menopause!"
