Ahh, there it is again. Life. It always finds a way to make things worse.
“Go away, Izuku,” Katsuki tells him through the closed front door. If the familiar nickname hadn’t given the other hero away, the smell certainly would have.
As far as Katsuki can tell, the shape of his nose remains unchanged. But the sense it houses has easily tripled in its efficiency. From one whiff alone, he can practically taste Izuku on his tongue, his usual paper and ink scent now dappled with the odors of the city—
hours out in the sun, smoke from yakitori restaurants, and the floral sweetness of sakura blossoms.
He wants to bury his face in his hair.
“I heard you got in an accident at work, Kacchan. I just wanted to check in on you, make sure you’re okay.”
“I’m—” Not doing great.
Three of his five senses are on overload at the moment. In addition to a world of new, disorienting smells, he can see and hear better, too. For example, Izuku’s gentle sigh as he taps his fingers against the door, or the sound of thunder rumbling directly overhead.
The storm is the worst part of this debacle, far and away. It’s louder than his own explosions, which wouldn’t be too bad if it wasn’t entirely unpredictable, cracking and booming at random intervals.
There’s nothing he can do to keep his body from tensing in anticipation, or to stop himself from flinching every time.
The next harsh crack makes him whine.
“Kacchan?!” Izuku asks, his concern morphing into worry. “Are you okay?!”
“I’m fine!” he snaps. Right now, priority number one is getting Izuku to go away. Then he can barricade his windows and doors to try to muffle that godawful clamor.
“You’re not fine, Kacchan! Open up!” Izuku exclaims, and Katsuki would complain about the volume but it’s actually nice to hear that familiar voice, even if he is yelling in his apartment hallway where anyone can hear him.
He’s about to tell him off again when Izuku plays his trump card.
“Open up or I’m breaking down the door.”
//That’d be expensive,// his anxious brain reasons. //Just let him in, already.//
“Fine!” And then he’s swinging open the door and tugging a stubborn-as-hell Izuku through it. There’s an upside to his entrance—when he comes in, he brings in more of that wonderful smell clinging to him. Which is… soothing, oddly enough.
Without thinking, Katsuki tugs him closer, and tucks his nose against his neck, breathing him in deeply.
“Wh-whoa!” Izuku stutters and jerks beneath him. But he doesn’t pull away.
Not that he has much choice when the next peal of thunder rips through the air and Katsuki wraps his arms around him, squeezing tight.
“Crap,” he hisses when his common sense returns, shoving Izuku away.
It’s a damn side effect from the quirk. That’s all! He tells Izuku, “Don’t read into that.”
But it’s too late. Those gears are turning, forest green eyes are lighting up and he’s even got one scarred hand creeping up towards his chin, intent on rubbing it thoughtfully.
“So it’s not just your appearance, then? You’re experiencing other symptoms too?”
“I’ve already told the quirk specialists. They’re working on reversing it,” he explains quickly, hoping to cut off Izuku before he really gets going.
“Don’t do that thing you always do. Don’t analyze me, asshat! Just leave it alone!”
//Just leave me alone while you’re at it.// But the thought of Izuku going away right now hits him wrong, so he bites back the urge to say it.
Which is a mistake because he accidentally pricks his lip for real with his new fangs.
“Gah!” He hisses, touching the delicate flesh.
“Are those fangs?” Izuku asks—/way/ too excitedly—and then for some unfathomable reason, sticks his thumb directly in Katsuki’s mouth.
“Whaf tha hell?!”
“Wow, look at these,” Izuku murmurs as he gently pushes down on Katsuki’s teeth, giving him a better view. “They’re so sharp!”
“I know!“ Katsuki grumbles, tearing his head away before he gives into the urge to chomp Izuku’s fingers. Honestly.
It’s no wonder his hands are so messed up, he has absolutely no sense of self preservation.
“Do you have a tail?” he wonders, simultaneously peeking around Katsuki to confirm. “You do!”
“That’s none of your business!”
“What else, Kacchan? Teeth and tail, that’s obvious.
Maybe a new sense of smell? Would explain why you grabbed me. I didn’t get the details of what happened, just heard you had an accident. Maybe someone with an animal quirk? But you’re not fully—”
“Shut. It.” Katsuki pinches his lips closed.
While it stops the flow of words, he can practically see the steam billowing out of his ears as his brain continues to work. “Quit! Stop worrying about what I have and don’t have!”
And then something truly unfortunate happens.
Thunder crackles off in the distance, loud enough to make Katsuki jump and accidentally jerk loose the hood of his sweatshirt. Gravity does its job, tugging it down, and exposing the top of his head.
Where two, large furry ears happen to be poking out.
“Ohhh!” Izuku’s eyes round, his mouth dropping open. If Katsuki hadn’t just lived through it, he’d assume that Izuku just spotted the new limited edition All Might figurine. The shine in his eyes is /un-freaking/ real.
“No,” he tells him emphatically.
But it’s too late, Izuku is reaching for them, intent on touching. “Don’t you dare!”
Which is precisely when a boom of thunder—the worst one yet—rips through the somewhat muted apartment.
It blares so loud that Katsuki collapses to the ground in a crouch, clapping his hands over his new ears as a pathetic whine escapes from him.
“Kacchan…”
It’s embarrassing as hell. He’s not afraid of the storm, of course.
It’s just so stupid-loud that it reverberates him to his core, lingering in his head well after the thunder finally relents, and leaving him trembling like a soundly struck bell.
“Kacchan…” Izuku calls softly, much closer now.
And then a hand gently settles in his hair, scratching lightly at his scalp. Unconsciously, he leans into it.
A moment passes. It’s quiet enough for Katsuki’s heartbeat to settle, his breathing to even out.
When he finally feels steady enough to look up, it’s into Izuku’s concerned forest greens. While he was distracted, Izuku dropped down in front of him, bringing them eye to eye. The hand in his hair moves with slow purpose, stroking him.
It feels amazing.
“It’s pretty loud, huh?” Izuku murmurs quietly, purposefully keeping his voice low to not startle him. “Is there anything I can do?”
//Keep touching me like that, nerd.//
“Ugh… no,” he claims stubbornly.
And then immediately changes his mind. He doesn’t want to stay out in the front hall any longer, and a much better idea just occurred to him. “I’m going to lay down.”
…Under every blanket he can find, hoping he can drown out the storm.
“You want me to do anything—eep!” He squeaks as Katsuki drags him to the bedroom with him. But then he remains silent as Katsuki throws him on the bed, dumping a ton of blankets in his lap.
Shortly, they’re replaced with Katsuki’s head as he snuggles under them, nuzzling in close to Izuku.
“We don’t speak about this. Ever,” he emphasizes, shooting a pointed glare at his fellow hero. “Or I’ll kill you. Got that, nerd?”
“Y-yeah.”
“Good.” He turns his head, allowing his eyes to close. “Rub my head. And my ears. And don’t talk.”
“Okay, Kacchan.” Izuku’s awed whisper makes his stomach flip, and his close proximity is more than just soothing… it’s like coming home after a long day; warm. Sweet.
//It’d be nice to have this all the time,// he thinks, letting out an appreciative grunt when Izuku covers his exposed ear as the next thunder peal starts.
Two days ago, I had no idea what to do for the free day, but then I saw Mira’s WIP and I had to try a thread. Thankfully, she agreed! We’ve got a few more collabs this week and I have a thread for every day so keep an eye out 🧡💚

“Bakugou, you’re doing it again.”
“Doing what?” he wonders absently.
Katsuki spares Kirishima a look. His friend is standing next to him, decked out in his nicest gakuran for the commencement ceremony.
It’s graduation day at UA, time for the strongest, most talented class in a decade to say goodbye.
All the students—well, former students now—are buzzing with excitement. After this, it’s no more difficult assignments, no more boring classes,
and no more exams that end with a trip to the hospital.
Katsuki should be amped up. The next step is the official launch of his hero career. It’s his dream made reality, finally tangible and within his reach.

“Thank you so much! We are Starpop!” Izuku calls into the mic.
He’s sweaty and dazed, but he can’t stop smiling as he ducks off stage. They’ve just finished their biggest gig to date. He’s so proud of and excited for his band. And he’s absolutely dying to celebrate with them.
It’s the perfect start to his birthday.
“Izuku!” Ochako meets him first, practically jumping into his arms as she hugs him tightly. She squeals in his ear as he laughs—though it’s really difficult to refrain from echoing that same sound right back to her.
Maybe if it were just the two of them, then he could let loose
