On #KargilVijayDiwas, let's look at the destructive ideas of Chaudhry Rahmat Ali- one of the earliest to coin the acronym 'Pakistan'. In this thread, I assert that 2 nation theory was not just a religious division but a denial of India's nationhood, civilisation & ancient culture
In 1933, Rahmat Ali wrote a pamphlet 'Now or Never' addressed to the Round Table Conference asserting that India was never a home of one single nation or having one common history. It was created for the first time by British. Sounds similar to ideas of some people, doesn't it?
Rahmat Ali went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge (same as me) and it was here when he wrote about creation of Pakistan and other smaller states through balkanisation of India. He often compared India to Europe and asserted that it constituted many different nationalities.
He contacted Iqbal and Jinnah to lobby for the creation of Pakistan. In one of his pamphlets, he proposed a map called 'Continent of Dinia' which showed many new states like Pakistan, Bangistan, Osmanistan etc.
The plan of Rahmat Ali and his ilk was never to stop at the creation of Pakistan. It was just the first step in the long process to destroy Bharatiya culture and the idea of Bharat.
After the creation of Pakistan, Rahmat Ali went to Pakistan with a lot of hope and optimism, only to be confronted by the monster he had helped create.
He was stripped of all his possessions by Liaqat Ali and came back broke and empty handed to Cambridge in 1948.
Ali died in 1951, destitute and insolvent and his funeral had to be arranged by Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
This was the fate of one of the earliest champions of Pakistan.
But lesson for Indians is clear: Two nation theory was not just a theocratic idea (which it is) which ended with creation of Pakistan. It is a denial of Bharat's nationhood and disdain for its ancient Hindu culture. (End of thread)
