🧵 It’s Natural Family Planning Awareness Week! Humanae Vitae is FIRE. Here’s how Pope Paul VI predicted the future in that encyclical. 1/8
In 1968, he said one of the consequences of artificial birth control would be greater marital infidelity. Amiright? #kinsey#divorce 2/8
Another consequence would be the “general lowering of moral standards”... 3/8
How about this one? “A man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman…” 4/8
“... and disregarding her physical and emotional desires reduce her to being a mere instrument” of sexual pleasure. #whatisawoman#metoo 5/8
Here’s one more: “Finally, careful consideration should be given to the danger of this power passing into the hands of those public authorities who care little for the precepts of the moral law….” 6/8
“... Who will prevent public authorities from favoring those contraceptive methods which they consider more effective? Should they regard this as necessary, they may even impose their use on everyone.” #onechildpolicy#margaretsanger#forcedsterilization 7/8
Bottom Line: “We must accept that there are certain limits, beyond which it is wrong to go, to the power of man over his own body and its natural functions.” #reverence#humanaevitae 8/8

“The Archbishop of the city, the area of San Francisco, and I have a disagreement about who should decide this. I believe that God has given us free will to honor our responsibilities.”
“They [those who seek to restrict abortion] ignore basic morality. They imperil the health and well-being of countless women.”
“Catholics across America commend Archbishop Cordileone and his pastoral leadership in handling the scandal posed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”
“For too long Catholic public officials have created confusion and disunity by advocating for policies that destroy innocent human life – in direct contradiction of the teachings of the Catholic faith.”
“The persistent disobedience of these public officials is a source of enormous sadness and scandal that begged for a response. The Church has no choice but to protect itself and to encourage all of its members to live in communion with its teachings.”
The “Shout My Abortion” movement now runs the Democratic Party, and they’re growing impatient with the word malarkey. They say it’s time for Biden to proudly use the “a” word, “without apology.” nytimes.com/2021/05/27/us/…
Gone are the days of Cuomo-inspired “personally opposed” or Bill Clinton’s triangulating “safe, legal and rare.” Today both sides of the abortion debate agree that “devout” Joe Biden needs to choose. No more euphemisms.
Catholics likewise are tired of the rhetorical games. From the “seamless garment” of yesteryear to today’s hiding behind “synodality” or “collegiality” -- the game is up. Stop the pretenses. Call out abortion for what it is -- the taking of an innocent human life.
