(Thread) My kiddo is now in middle school, and she’s leading an elective class in building DIY air purifiers for the entire school. /1
She presented to the class last week about the importance of indoor air filtration and how to build the filters. We donated the supplies for nine #corsirosenthalboxes. We dropped them off Tuesday and the class started construction. /2
The filters will reduce the spread of covid and other viruses and will help with allergies and wildfire smoke, too. Should keep more kids healthy and in school. /3
I offered to help supervise the students’ building of the filters. “I’ve got this, dad,” Lily told me. And she’s right. She does. /4
Lily is such a leader, and I’m so proud of her! 🥰 #dadsofdaughters

(Addendum) This tweet thread really took off, and Lily and I do have something to promote — safer schools. So many teachers have expressed excitement about Lily’s project, in her school and district and, through social media, all over the world. They need your help. /1
Find a teacher in your community who wants a #corsirosenthalbox in their classroom. Make a CR box for them. Donate it, if you can afford it. The materials will cost you less than $100. /2
Or do it for a coffee shop, a nursing home, an office building, a church, a political party headquarters, a nonprofit organization, a newsroom, a big box store, your parents’ house, your house. You get the point. /3
If you have kids, get them to help. It’s a great learning opportunity and an empowering experience for young people who feel helpless in the face of the pandemic and so many other apocalypses. That alone is well worth every penny. /4
I’d love for you to come back here and share your story after doing it. Let’s encourage and help each other. /5
(Thread) Sorry folks. I wasn’t in a space to say anything useful about the state cutting back on COVID reporting last night. My #longcovid brain fog is worst in the evening when I’m physically tired. /1
Last night, I couldn’t even feel my sorrow, abandonment and grief through the surface emotion of anger, let alone process what I was thinking. I can share now. /2
I’ll start here: I was in a lab for medical tests yesterday wearing my N95. The other patient wore a good mask. But the lab techs (women) were insufficiently masked in surgicals. The supervising tech (man, of course 🙄) wasn’t masked. /3
“… white mortality during COVID was still substantially lower than Black mortality in the pre-pandemic years. In that light, the normalizing of COVID deaths is unsurprising.“
Racism sucks. Ableism + racism sucks more. /1
“When deaths happen to people who are already not valued in a million other ways, it’s easier to not value their lives in this additional way,” Wrigley-Field told me. /2
This is largely why I tweet about #LongCovid and #CorsiRosenthalBox and the ways that our government is selling us out to capitalism and politics. I can tell my story. And I feel a responsibility to do it. I hope it helps people who are even more marginalized than me. /3
Look folks. New Mexico’s racial and colonizing history is more complex than most of America. I don’t yet know who shot a man during the planned toppling of a statue of Oñate in ABQ tonight. But I can give some context to the environment in which the shooting happened. /1
Juan de Oñate was a colonizer. And an oppressive one. As I wrote in 2015, “His army slaughtered hundreds of people at Acoma Pueblo in 1599 after a skirmish left about a dozen Spaniards dead, including his nephew.” /2
“The Spaniards cut the right feet off surviving men 25 and over. They enslaved many women.”
