1/ @EnergyInnovLLC has finished modeling the #InflationReductionAct & the results are transformative. Bottom line-- if passed-- the bill would be the most ambitious #climate action in US history. A thread w/ top line findings, & full results here: rb.gy/r1zftw
2/ Our modeling finds the policies in the #InflationReductionAct would cut US #greenhousegas emissions 37-41% below 2005 levels by 2030. Combined w/ executive & state action, that means the US can realistically hit its targets under the Paris Agreement
3/ Our modeling also finds the #InflationReductionAct won't just protect our environment-- it'll make the US economy stronger. The policies in the bill are projected to create up to 1.5 million jobs in 2030 and add nearly 1% to the country's GDP
4/ Just as importantly, the #InflationReductionAct's policies will literally save lives. By cutting air pollution, @EnergyInnovLLC's modeling finds the bill would prevent over 3,900 premature deaths, 100,000 asthma attacks, & 417,000 lost workdays annually in 2030.
5/ The #InflationReductionAct will be especially meaningful for environmental justice communities. Our modeling finds as a percentage decrease, avoided deaths are concentrated in communities of color, which have historically experienced the most harm from air pollution.
6/ The fossil fuel provisions in the #InflationReductionAct are not ideal but fortunately our modeling finds the bill avoids 24 tons of greenhouse gas emissions for every 1 ton caused by oil & gas leasing provisions.
7/ The data is clear-- the US has never come close to passing policy that would cut #greenhousegas emissions at the scale the #InflationReductionAct will if it becomes law & few policies anywhere in the world have been as impactful. Plus it'll benefit our economy & public health.

Getting the whole world to #netzero#GHGs rapidly is going to be incredibly difficult. But given how strong and organized the #climateopposition is, we must distinguish #thesignalfromthenoise on which pathways are the most likely to succeed. A 🧵 on how I think about this 1/14
2/ First, we cannot rely on social and lifestyle change governed by new paradigms like degrowth to deliver in time for this #climatedecade. But if the movement delivers small reductions in energy or meat consumption, we need it jackrabbithomes.org/can-we-save-th…
3/ #Technologyandpolicy (and politics) need to do the heavy lifting. Can they deliver? Yes, but to effectively channel our efforts and fight off the opposition, we need to distinguish between main courses, side dishes and poison pills (frequently buried in the side dishes)
