@JustinTrudeau @cafreeland @CBCPolitics @ElectionsCan_E It has become distressingly obvious that a great many Canadians are quite ignorant of how our Westminster parliamentary democracy works. The opposition is taking full advantage of this ignorance. 1/10
Our media, much of which is a monopoly owned by a foreign corporation with ties to the American Republican Party, does very little to set the record straight when incorrect claims are made by opposition MPs. This should not be the case. 2/10
Misinformation & disinformation put our democratic systems at risk. The public cannot make informed voting decisions if they have been led to believe things which are not accurate. Our 4th estate should be challenging incorrect/misleading statements, but they often do not. 3/10
It is the joint responsibility of the Government of Canada, Elections Canada, and our national broadcaster (CBC) to educate the public on the structures and processes which make up our governance systems. 4/10
Specific areas where there seems to be great misunderstandings include: levels of government and jurisdictional responsibilities; how the judiciary and policing and the CBC are separate entities from the government; how the NCC operates to maintain public properties; 5/ 10
The rights we have in Canada under the Charter and how those apply (e.g. we do not have a 2nd amendment - a common misconception, neither do we have a 1st or 5th, or any of the other amendments Canadians seem to have absorbed from US TV) and how they are not absolute; 6/10
The proper names for positions in our system (e.g. we do not have District Attorneys, we have Crown Prosecutors); the new processes for appointing judges and senators... This is not an exhaustive list of things many Canadians do not seem to know, but it's a start. 7/10
I would suggest a multi-pronged approach, utilizing print, television, radio, and social media ads. Short, easily digestible segments, perhaps in an animated "explainer" format for media where that would work.
8/10
I understand that the opposition would strenuously oppose this, simply because it would make their attempts to encourage the spread of misinformation less effective. We have strict laws about truth in advertising for products and services, but not for politics. 9/10
An educated public is far less susceptible to misinformation, and, since we don't have any other means of countering it, it is essential that they be educated. This would be a very worthwhile investment in the future of our democracy. 10/10
Let's add explaining how seats in Parliament are allocated to the list. I just explained how seats relate to population to several people who are angry that SK has fewer seats than ON. Government of Canada, PLEASE set up some remedial civics education for Canadians! #cdnpoli

What the fricken f*ck is wrong with Canadians these days? Danielle Smith is front runner to replace Jason Kenney as leader of the UCP and Premier of Alberta. Doug f*ing Ford got a majority government with no real platform! And...
Pierre Poilievre is the front-runner to lead the CPC, her majesty's official opposition. Seriously. What is wrong with people? Add to that, the "Freedumb convoy" is now fundraising off residential schools, plans to protest the Pope's apology, and
put put a US flag on our war memorial. If you want to be American, go live there. They are much more accommodating to white people looking for a green card, I hear. Why do some people feel they need to screw everything up for everyone else?

@CBCNews Are you on this? This is significant. These people are using residential schools to get people to give money to them and their ill-begotten movement of rage and insurrection. Without our public broadcaster fact-checking, they will not stop until Canada has joined the US.
Did you see @glen_mcgregor post this? An American flag, laid on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa at Canada's war memorial. Where does this end?
We need the CBC to step up here. Things are going off the rails. @CBCPolitics @CBCNews If ever we needed an unbiased, honest news service in this country, it is right now. Please show us you have journalistic integrity. Please stem the tide of misinformation.

I am astonished by how many people come out of the woodwork to defend using Ivermectin as a cure for COVID. It's horse dewormer, an anti-parasitic drug. It has no efficacy against a virus. But, somewhere along the line someone suggested it and,
in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, some people have decided it is the hill they want to die on. "Ivermectin worked great for me and my family" some say. Or, you know, the virus ran its course and you just got better. I don't get it. Why do we have so many
People these days who have the contrariness of toddlers? Was it always like this? Has there always been a swath of the population who look at the directions of physicians and think to themselves, "No. I won't do that. I will find something really weird and try that instead"?

I posted this last night, never expecting the deluge of replies. Comments generally fall into four categories:
1. It's Joe, not Josh (Ok. I didn't even know there were two media Rogans, and I guess I've heard of Josh more often than Joe. I stand corrected)
2. The Sun is not journalism.
This is true. I appreciate the number of respondents who are aware of this. I also recognize that my followers are, by and large, well-educated and intelligent people. I am not sure this applies to the population as a whole.

Some people DO see the Sun as news.

3. The Sun papers and all of Postmedia are American-owned and publish what is in the best interests of their shareholders' portfolios.

This. Seriously. If the PM does not attend an event, does not meet with certain groups, it does not mean he is afraid. It means there is a credible threat on his life and his security detail says No Way. Please remember, if the PM's life is in danger, so are the lives of those
Whose job it is to protect him. Imagine, for just a moment that your job is to protect a person. Take a bullet for them if need be. Are you going to let them put themself in danger. I am thinking, no.
And PMJT is also keenly aware that if he takes risks, he is exposing those who protect him to risk. It is not just about him, and his family. It's about dozens of others and their families as well.

Piece on CBC on long grief disorder. Interesting. It has a name. But, is it a "disorder"? Maybe it's those who "get over" losing someone close to them who have the disorder? Are we supposed to stop loving them? Are we supposed to not feel their absence?
Queen Victoria mourned her beloved Albert for over 40 years, never going back to wearing anything but black after his death.
After my brother died before Christmas, we were working on cleaning out his house. That's when I discovered he kept his beloved wife's ashes right next to his bed. She died over 20 years ago.
