Hi @mdeperno! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum again… It was nice seeing you on #LetItRip with @rooprajfox2 last night. I heard that you thought I went silent… perhaps that was just because you took up most of the oxygen with your bloviating.
fox2detroit.com/video/1104367
But since you tweeted at me, this morning, I would like to take the opportunity to expand on a few things: You would be a dangerous AG and are a threat to our democracy.
You were asked several times if you were in possession of tabulators and never satisfactorily answered the question. Did you possess them?
It seems like you already admitted to it on a podcast back in 2021, but it would be helpful for you to confirm it… that is you on the recording and you are saying that you had the tabulators, right? michiganadvance.com/2022/08/10/gop…
The OAN video on your law firm’s website seems to suggest that you at least were aware of a tabulator being in the hands of someone who wasn’t authorized to have it… on your behalf or at least supporting your efforts.
depernolaw.com/dominion.html
And while we’re on the subject of authorization to have them, you keep saying that you ARE authorized to have them if it occurs after the certification of the election. This is true ONLY if you stop reading the statute after the first clause of MCL 168.932(b).
From MCL 168.932(b): “A person shall not obtain undue possession of that ballot box or voting machine.” Also: “A person shall not aid or abet in any act prohibited by this subdivision.” A person who violates 1 or more of the above is guilty of a felony.
legislature.mi.gov/(S(1r2cpcy2fpk…
I do not care where you did it, I do not care whether you were at an AirBnB, hotel, in your basement or even your office. Those tabulators should not have left the possession of the local clerks.
The fact is the minute they left the local clerk’s care and custody, they could never be used again.
And so I ask you: What do you have to say to the residents and taxpayers in these communities that now have to foot the bill to purchase new election equipment since you took it from them? That’s not cheap. michigan.gov/-/media/Projec…
If I learned anything from attending the hacking convention #DEFCON it was to never let unauthorized people have access to tabulators. I saw first hand what can be done, when computers and tabulators fall into the wrong hands… which is why I take what you did so seriously.
I also want an answer to my question about where you got access to the election programming software from Dominion. The laptop in that video shows the EMS system. Those are held by Dominion and the County Clerks. So which County Clerk did you coerce, Matt?
I’ve been following the tabulators case & ensuing investigation: When this was requested back in February, there was no indication that you were involved. @MIAttyGen has the responsibility to investigate these crimes.
When it was clear that you were involved, she referred it to a Special Prosecutor. That’s ethical behavior, exactly what we hope to see from our Attorney General, when a conflict of interest is discovered.
Given the “Lock Her Up” bumper sticker in your campaign store, I imagine that you would have a difficult time living up to that standard, would you? secure.winred.com/matthew-depern…
You also stated that this was somehow an illegal campaign contribution. It’s not. She is the Attorney General of Michigan, investigating crimes in Michigan. The fact that you are a political opponent is irrelevant, and (as I said) she ethically removed herself.
Sorry the timing is inconvenient for you. Many of us thought, when you decided to run, that you were doing so in an effort to prevent your own prosecution; that you would avoid charges being brought because you could deflect them as political. Well turns out we were right.
The fact is, we all need to be worried about what happens if Matt becomes the next Attorney General for the State of Michigan.
With his ridiculous statements and wild claims, I am concerned that people believe the snake oil that he is selling and, as a result, the public trust in our elections is at risk.
Bush-Cheney Strategist @matthewjdowd made a list of the Top Ten Candidates who threaten our Democracy. All three Michigan statewide Republican candidates made the list, but let’s be clear about one thing:
The single biggest threat to our democracy and the integrity of our elections is Matt DePerno. mdowd-97828.medium.com/democracy-watc…

Hi @realronweiser!👋Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here. I saw you had some trouble with your county conventions last night. It felt familiar so maybe I can unpack it a bit for you.🧵
From what I gathered last night, you had at least two counties (Hillsdale and Macomb) which held two different Republican County Conventions.
In Macomb, the problem stemmed back to the April Convention you held when your party seemed unable to elect a chairman that your voters found to be legitimate.

Hello, @mdeperno If you're going to try to zing me with my own format, it's a 👋not a 👏. Attention to detail is important. 🧵
Also, do you mean @CraigDMauger journalist for the Detroit News when you say "fake-news internet content creator?" Because in my view he is doing his job a lot better than you are doing yours.
You may not have seen the evidence (except when you were creating it, of course) but it seems like the AG’s office has. Here is the letter petitioning for a special prosecutor. Funny that you haven’t seen it yet. documentcloud.org/documents/2212…

Hi @mdeperno! 👋 Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum, here. Long time, no chat. And apparently we needed to, because it sounds like you have been drinking too much Mar-a-Lago Kool-Aid. But let this professional Election Administrator help to set you straight. 🧵👇
Let me say this as clearly as I can for you and everyone to hear: IN MICHIGAN, ALL LEGALLY CAST BALLOTS THAT ARE IN THE HANDS OF THE LOCAL CLERK BY 8:00 P.M. LOCAL TIME ON ELECTION DAY *WILL* BE COUNTED.
Huge jurisdictions, like Detroit, have, in some cases, hundreds of thousands of ballots to count. That takes time.

I just performed a tie-breaker drawing for two different Republican Precinct Delegate races, during the Board of Canvassers meeting. 🧵
It is the responsibility of the County Clerk to canvass and certify precinct delegate races. When the two ties occurred, I referred to Election Law for what had to be done.
It turns out you do a drawing from a hat using one slip of paper that says “Elected” and another that says “Not Elected.”

Hi Election Deniers! 👋 Ingham County Barb Byrum here! In the wake of the August 2, 2022 Primary Election, I have heard that you are back out spreading misinformation. Unfortunately (for you), I am aware of you. Let’s discuss: 🧵
There are a number of you who are choosing not to concede and accept the unofficial results of the election. Conceding is not a formal requirement of the law, but it is nice.
Also, as @gusportela points out, conceding is good for party/national unity, if you care about such things. I wonder where that call for unity was, when Donald Trump failed to concede and did not accept the Presidential Election results.

Hi Laura Roush!👋Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum here. I noted that you suggested breaking election tabulators to your supporters. Here is why that is a problem for you: 🧵
First of all, tampering with a tabulator comes with a felony charge, per MCL 168.932(b), so I would not recommend that.
Additionally, Clerks have plans for if tabulators go down. They have battery backups. We have extra machines. We have neighboring jurisdictions that have backup machines. Those ballots will be going into a tabulator.
