Different systems are available for defining colours.

The HEX colour system is the most commonly used in digital products.

Will you be able to identify the colour if I give you #E6AACE?

Probably not

Let's look at how these codes work.

A thread 🧵
1/ HEX is nothing but a string for 6 hexadecimal symbols.

This might already make sense to those with a computer science or math background.

If not, don't worry.

Here's an example to help you understand
2/ Like the decimal number system that contains symbols 0-9. The hexadecimal number system consists of 16 symbols:
0-9 and A-F
3/ So, from the code below 👇

We can determine how much RED is used from the first two symbols, how much GREEN is present from the next two and how much BLUE is present from the last two. Image
4/ In this way, we can easily interpret #000000 as black since it does not contain any red, green or blue in its mix. Image
5/ Therefore, just increment the last two symbols of the hex code if you want a shade of blue.
6/ The hexadecimal number system is also known as the base-16 number system as there are 16 symbols.
7/ The base-16 number system allows any number from 0-255 to be displayed as 2 symbols.

So when we write FF, this is basically 👇

(see image) Image
8/ Now, that's why #0000FF is pure blue Image
That's it!

This is just the basics, there is a lot to learn about colours. Colour theory plays an important role in the design of products. It's definitely worth reading more about!

Lessons from the book "Stillness is the key"

a thread 🧵
1/ Stillness is when you're at peace with yourself. When no noise reaches you and no emotion disturbs you.
2/ The important stuff will remain important by the time you get it, while the unimportant will have made its insignificance obvious.

"Ask yourself at every moment, is this necessary?"

why are we obsessed with round corners?

they're everywhere — from hardware to software products.

let's look at the effect rounded corners have on the human psyche 🧵
1/ rounded objects appear less bright

according to research done at Barrow Neurological Institute — “perceived salience of a corner varies linearly with the angle of the corner” — sharper the corner, brighter it appears. Image
2/ we're accustomed to rounded corners

from a young age, we're taught that sharp corners are harmful. Image
