Many consider the 1980's as the golden age of Tamil cinema because of some of it's greatest filmmakers like KB, #Bharathiraja, #BaluMahendra, #Mahendran etc arguably making their career best films in that period

I'll admit this decade of #Kollywood was off to a bit of a rocky start in 2020 vis a vis the pandemic with only few films even getting released but below are the filmmakers that I think will do their career best in this decade make it a great one for Tamil cinema! :

#PaRanjith- Ranjith is obviously a pathbreaker in Tamil political films. Ranjith's #SarpattaParambarai was a superb action-drama and if rumors are true that his new film #NatchathiramNagargirathu centers on LGBTQ+ issues, then that makes him the 1st mainstream Tamil filmmaker-

making a #LGBTQIA+ themed film. Also his next film is a magical realism film with #ChiyaanVikram + He's making a unique gangster themed film with a follow-up prequel series called #Vettuvam AND not to mention he's also announced a project with #KamalHaasan𓃵

#SudhaKongara- Sudha Kongora is a fantastic filmmaker who made 2020's best film #SooraraiPottru with Suriya with whom she's announced another project in the making. She also made a gut-wrenching short film Thangam as part of Netflix's Paava Kadhaigal. There has been reports that-

she's making a multi-starrer film with #Hombale productions. Also she said in an interview that she's involved in a series centering around the 1st female doctors of South India.

#VetriMaaran- Anything Vetrimaaran seems to touch right now is gold. With his new film #viduthalai is already raking in huge expectations, he's making period film #VaadiVaasal revolving around Jallikattu in the backdrop of 60's TN politics. He's also making a Zee5 webseries-

named Nilamellam Ratham, a Vadachennai prequel series about the origins of Raajan, and he's making the long-awaited #Vadachennai2

#LokeshKanakaraj- Lokesh is on cloud nine rn with the massive success of #Vikram and the grand start of the LCU. This decade is going to be an exciting one as he makes more films in this universe (there are reports that T67 is also in the LCU). So in a few years will we see an-

Endgame type film with #KamalHaasan𓃵, #Vijay, #Karthi, #Fafa etc all in the SAME film fighting #Suriya and other villains?!? Only time will tell.

#MariSelvaraj- He made arguably one of Tamil cinema's best debut films with Pariyerum Perumal (probably rivaling Bharathiraja's 16 vayathinile) and then he made a stellar follow-up with Karnan. His next film Maamannan starring #Udhay Stalin, #Vadivelu, #keerthiSuresh and #FaFa-

has peaked expectations of it being another politically charged film. He also has a sports-drama with #DhruvVikram in his lineup.

#HalithaShameem- a personal favourite filmmaker of mine, Halitha Shameem made a nice rooted film Aelay in 2020 and followed it up with her touching short film Loners as part of the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaatha. She's just finished shooting her most ambitious project-

#Minmini which has been in the making for nearly 10 years now.

#MadonneAshwin- His debut film Mandela was an entertaining political satire which won a lot of accolades. He seems to be a filmmajer with a unique style and his next film Maaveeran with #SivaKartikeyan and #Mysskin has certainly raised expectations!

Resurgence of #VenkatPrabhu- He ruled the 2000s with hit after hit but his career was a bit uneventful in the 2010s. However Maanadu broke all records and stereotypes against Muslims and now VP is back in form and how!His next film is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual with #NagaChaitanya-

And is also planning to release his shelved film Party soon.

#AshwinSaravanan- He impressed audiences with his psychological thriller Game Over and he's slated to make Connect with #Nayanthara which looks promising! Also another filmmaker with a unique voice and take on the horror genre.

#PushkarGayathri- They wowed audiences with their 2016 film Vikram Vedha and their recent successful webseries Suzhal. Hoping they make more Tamil content in the near future!

#Mysskin and #directorRam- These 2 filmmakers are consistent and always a fan of anything they do cause they do it with zero compromises! Mysskin has a action film with #Simbu and another with #ArunVijay whereas Ram is making a film with #NivinPauly and #Anjali

#ThyagarajanKumararaja- I placed him at the bottom of the list cause nobody knows if he's even making a film or not 🙈 Hoping he makes another film soon!
