A landlord in Las Vegas admitted that he required a homeless mom of 5 to sign a housing contract that required her to perform blowjobs for 5 years and barred her from dating any man who's larger than him or owns a gun. @l_tousignant writes: jezebel.com/landlord-requi…
@l_tousignant The lease also barred her from eating any "aphrodisiacs," like oysters or strawberries. He didn't disclose that the home was in foreclosure.
@l_tousignant The woman is suing him, and the trial is ongoing until Oct. 3. I'm rarely so shook after editing a piece that I have to take a walk, but I have to go take a walk.

President Biden is about to appoint an anti-abortion Republican Kentucky judge to a lifetime federal seat--apparently a deal he made with Mitch McConnell, and a massive betrayal to the people he claims he's fighting for. jezebel.com/biden-set-to-a…
McConnell reportedly said that if Biden would nominate Chad Meredith, a member of the Federalist Society from McConnell's own state, he would not "hold up future federal nominations by the Biden White House.”
The Republicans and the Democrats are playing an entirely different game.

I really think the mindset of the Biden Administration was "fine, let them overturn Roe. It will help us in the midterms" instead of "OK, what can we do about this to help people immediately." Yes people are mad. Yes they will vote. That doesn't excuse you
I will never say it's pointless to vote. Fucking vote. But the people we're voting for need to show us they're actually trying to do something beyond just asking us to vote.
At the end of the day, voting for a president/senator/congressman who wouldn't gut abortion rights is far better than voting for one who would. But strength and action would motivate turnout, and passiveness simply does not.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, chair of the House Republican Conference, called basically all prominent Democrats "pedos" in a tweet Friday. Now, her staff is trying to explain that by "pedos," the congresswoman meant "children."

I wrote about it: jezebel.com/by-calling-all…
STAFFER: First off, this is her personal Twitter. Just have to note that. And number two, “pedo” is not short for “pedophile,” it is “pedo” as in “children.” “Pedo” is, if you look it up on Google it’s-

CALLER: Yeah. I know what the word means.
Update: Stefanik's office tells me she was referring specifically to a pedophile in the Lincoln Project, completely refuting what her staffer told a constituent. jezebel.com/by-calling-all…

"We're only punishing the doctors, not the patients!" they said.

Things have changed.
I'm old enough to remember when the entire anti-abortion movement shunned then-presidential candidate Donald Trump for saying out loud in an interview that women should face "punishment" for abortion. That was six years ago.
"My question is, who's gonna protect us from him?" said Penny Nance, the president of the conservative Christian activist group Concerned Women for America, at the time. huffpost.com/entry/anti-abo…

Today is the start of #GoogleIO and they’re going to spend the next few days talking about how great they are and showing off colorful new phones. But they’re also going to be talking about ads, which is really what they do and how they’re killing journalism. Thread: (1/5)
There are three things to remember. First, Google is pushing this thing called “Privacy Sandbox” which sounds important and good but is really just Google trying to monopolize ads – cutting publishers out of the profits, and doing it under the cover of “privacy.” (2/5)
Second, don’t forget that Google ran a secret project with the codename #ProjectBernanke that was essentially rigging ad auctions in their favor and never told publishers. (3/5) on.wsj.com/3hBvmwy

I will join the chorus in saying this is an absolute must-read. The best thing I've read on the current political situation, just brilliant and clear and insightful nytimes.com/2021/01/09/mag…
Hard to choose particular parts to highlight, because the whole thing is quotable, but this paragraph really resonates: Image
I swear I'm not gonna screenshot the entire thing but this paragraph too is a banger Image
