For context, her fetus was diagnosed with a fatal condition, she could lose her uterus if she doesn’t have this abortion, she had to petition a judge to override the Texas abortion ban, the judge tearfully granted her an exception, and Texas’ AG is now threatening her doctor. Worth noting that Ken Paxton, the Texas AG threatening the woman’s doctor, is this guy. texastribune.org/2023/05/28/tex…

Tonight, North Carolina Republicans overrode the Democratic governor's veto to jam a 12-week abortion ban into law, against the will of the people. The GOP had a veto-proof majority only because Rep. Tricia Cotham switched parties and joined them jezebel.com/north-carolina… If you want to know why Cotham, a former Democrat who represents a very blue district in the state and has spoken passionately for years about abortion rights, would suddenly switch sides-- you need to read this reporting by @SusanRinkunas jezebel.com/angry-ex-staff…

Enjoying watching the right act surprised that Donald Trump doesn't actually give a shit about abortion, has no genuinely held beliefs at all, never keeps any promises, and will obviously continue to do whatever he thinks will help him win at any cost Trump pretended to be super anti-abortion in the 2016 election because there was an empty SCOTUS seat to fill, and evangelicals were motivated to hold their noses and vote for him based on the potential of overturning Roe. It worked, and now abortion is a losing issue for the GOP

You may have seen the viral story Bari Weiss' "Free Press" published about a trans teen's mom regretting approving their puberty blockers.

The teen has spoken out and said the story is full of misinformation and lacks their very different perspective: jezebel.com/gender-fluid-t… Notably, the story was written by Emily Yoffe, who has a long history of bullshit

Tennessee Republicans are voting to expel 3 Democratic lawmakers from the State House for having led pro-gun-control chants after a mass shooting at an elementary school last week. They've been removed from committees and stripped of their House IDs jezebel.com/tennessee-repu… absolutely wild quote from one of the lawmakers getting targeted: Image

The banned books included Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group by Susan Campbell Bartoletti, and Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen by Jazz Jennings. Rare to see any positive news out of Texas (or any federal judges) these days, so this feels worth boosting

A woman who worked at an Ohio Sheetz was forced to leave her job after her ex-husband knocked all her teeth out, because company policy forbids employees from working with “obvious missing, broken, or badly discolored teeth.”

really heartbreaking story: jezebel.com/ohio-sheetz-em… “I was informed that policy states all Sheetz employees must have and remain with a perfect beautiful warm welcoming smile,” Rose Marie Counts wrote on Facebook.

This clip is extremely gross but also, they’re missing the joke. Gisele always crops his head out of photos, it’s a bit Here's another example. It's funny. We're laughing with her, not at her

Vance is trying to have it both ways and has clearly practiced this answer, but what he's saying is that he supports a federal abortion ban. And it's just incredible to say in the same answer: Look, I think California and Ohio should be able to decide on this issue for themselves, even if they decide differently. That said, yes, I support forcing a federal abortion ban on California

Really can't get over Dr. Oz saying abortion should be between "a woman, her doctor, and local political leaders." Men: Imagine a candidate saying that your colonoscopy should be between you, your doctor, and local political leaders

Pls share the police report / witness statements. Would love to hear what actually happened, as I suspect it wasn’t this Starting to make more sense. It's likely this man is Christopher Monzon, a white supremacist / pro-confederacy guy deeply involved in GOP politics in the Miami area who's done jail time for assaulting BLM protesters

Truly holy shit Politics aside, Alaska electing a Native Woman is so important. It's the 3rd largest Native population in the country, and they've been so badly mistreated--have a lower life expectancy, lower quality of life, and higher prevalence of many chronic conditions, according to CDC.

President Biden is about to appoint an anti-abortion Republican Kentucky judge to a lifetime federal seat--apparently a deal he made with Mitch McConnell, and a massive betrayal to the people he claims he's fighting for. jezebel.com/biden-set-to-a… McConnell reportedly said that if Biden would nominate Chad Meredith, a member of the Federalist Society from McConnell's own state, he would not "hold up future federal nominations by the Biden White House.”

I really think the mindset of the Biden Administration was "fine, let them overturn Roe. It will help us in the midterms" instead of "OK, what can we do about this to help people immediately." Yes people are mad. Yes they will vote. That doesn't excuse you I will never say it's pointless to vote. Fucking vote. But the people we're voting for need to show us they're actually trying to do something beyond just asking us to vote.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, chair of the House Republican Conference, called basically all prominent Democrats "pedos" in a tweet Friday. Now, her staff is trying to explain that by "pedos," the congresswoman meant "children."

I wrote about it: jezebel.com/by-calling-all… STAFFER: First off, this is her personal Twitter. Just have to note that. And number two, “pedo” is not short for “pedophile,” it is “pedo” as in “children.” “Pedo” is, if you look it up on Google it’s-

CALLER: Yeah. I know what the word means.

"We're only punishing the doctors, not the patients!" they said.

Things have changed. I'm old enough to remember when the entire anti-abortion movement shunned then-presidential candidate Donald Trump for saying out loud in an interview that women should face "punishment" for abortion. That was six years ago.

Today is the start of #GoogleIO and they’re going to spend the next few days talking about how great they are and showing off colorful new phones. But they’re also going to be talking about ads, which is really what they do and how they’re killing journalism. Thread: (1/5) There are three things to remember. First, Google is pushing this thing called “Privacy Sandbox” which sounds important and good but is really just Google trying to monopolize ads – cutting publishers out of the profits, and doing it under the cover of “privacy.” (2/5)

I will join the chorus in saying this is an absolute must-read. The best thing I've read on the current political situation, just brilliant and clear and insightful nytimes.com/2021/01/09/mag… Hard to choose particular parts to highlight, because the whole thing is quotable, but this paragraph really resonates: Image

Yes NYC is total anarchy. We're all wearing masks, standing in line 6 feet apart and getting our temps taken before being able to go into a store or use the bathroom in a bar. You have to order food with every drink and all bars close at 11. Mass chaos I just stepped outside to enjoy the anarchy myself. I pulled my mask down to take a sip of coffee and someone shouted "YOU'RE SELFISH" so I pulled it back up

It amazes me that so many people still view birth control as equivalent to a pack of condoms. I mean, contraception on its own is worth covering in health insurance, but women are also prescribed birth control for so many medical reasons--ovarian cysts, endometriosis, acne... This point has been made over and over. I just want to reiterate how antiquated the idea is that your employer can cherry pick what medicine you have to pay for out of pocket because of... "morals"
