Hey Missouri, gather ‘round. As much as I loathe Trump, he’s not our problem. He’s been out of office 18+ months, and our problems haven’t magically gone away. They’ve gotten worse, because he was never our biggest problem. The majority party in our state legislature is. #MoLeg
In 2021, the Missouri GOP passed a law barring local law enforcement from enforcing federal gun laws, putting the entire state in greater danger of deadly gun violence. @MomsDemand#MoLegcbsnews.com/news/missouri-…
Also in 2021, the Missouri GOP made it impossible for police to prevent convicted domestic abusers from having guns. MO has the 2nd highest rate of women killed by men. @MomsDemand#MoLegkcur.org/politics-elect…
1/ I don’t know what to tell you guys. I’ve sat through #MoLeg hearings & debates over my body autonomy. I’ve witnessed firsthand who’s fighting for me and who is just performative. I can tell you with 💯 confidence that @crystal_quade is a damn warrior…
2/ @crystal_quade defines what it means to do the work. And no, your Twitter hot takes don’t count as “work.” I’ll never forget how damn hard she fought in 2019 against the “heartbeat bill.” I’ll never forget her sharing her story of childhood abuse for all of Missouri to hear…
3/ I’ll never forget hearing the next day that news outlets reported on her story of abuse, and that she hadn’t even told her family at that point. If you’ve never publicly shared your story, I can tell you that it’s real fucking hard…
1/ I live in a state that’s been under a Republican supermajority for 2 decades, and you need to hear this. The party that claims to stand for freedom has told me what I can/cannot do with my body. They’ve limited what my kids can learn, and what their teachers can teach…
2/They’re trying to force guns into my children’s schools. They’ve limited what medication my daughter can take. They’re dictating how doctors can treat their patients. They’re limiting what team kids can play on. They’re keeping innocent people incarcerated.
They’re limiting how/when/where we can vote. They’re refusing to give the incarcerated basic needs. They’re limiting funding for public schools. 20+ years of living under a Republican supermajority, and they’re the only ones taking my freedoms. They’ll come for yours too.#MoLeg
1/ When I was 16, a crisis pregnancy center was brought into my high school to teach sex ed. For one of the lessons, they chose 7 students to stand in front of the class. I made no eye contact, but was chosen anyway. It was worse than I ever expected…
2/ We were told to stand in a line facing our classmates. The 1st student was handed a piece of tape & was instructed to stick it to his shirt. When he pulled it off, the instructor pointed out that it was still sticky. Still “clean.” Still “worth something.”
3/The piece of tape was passed down the line and stuck to, then pulled off of, each person, becoming less sticky each time. I was at the end of the line. By the time it got to me, the piece of tape wouldn’t stick. It just kept falling off of my top.
The group “Missouri RINO watch” regularly targets MO Republicans they deem not extreme enough. This group regularly incites violence against “RINOS.” They have championed Missouri’s most extreme, including Senators Rick Brattin & Bob Onder, whose wives are active members. #MoLeg
You would think that after Missouri Republican candidate for US Senate called for the hunting and killing of political opponents (within his own party) today, Senator Onder and Senator Brattin’s wives would have distanced themselves from this terrorist organization. #MoLeg#MoSen
But instead they remain silent, while the threats of violence continue. #MoLeg#MoSen
1/ Tomorrow for Father’s Day, I’ll sit & have a beer at my dad’s gravesite. At his funeral, I was able to speak about him. I typed my words out in case I needed someone to step in for me that day. I’m so grateful I kept this. Everyone deserves a person like this.❤️
