The major temple Ajitanath Shwetambar temple was built by Chaulukya king Kumarapala (1143-1174) after he became a follower of Jainism under Acharya Hemchandra. There are 14 Shwetambar temples & 5 Digambar temples on the hill.

Tejpal, brother of Vastupal, installed idols of Lord Adinath & Lord Neminath. On the outer hall there are idols of Yakshini Padmavati & Seth Kumarapal himself. The oldest temple in compound is dedicated to Lord Sambhavanatha built in Maru-Gurjara architecture around 1030 CE

Moolnayak Ajitnath is the 2nd Tirthankar, he is seated in the shrine decorated with precious stones let into the marble. There are footprints of Tirthankar Rishabha & other 20 Tirthankars. There are also shrines of Gaumukha, Samavasarana and a painting of Jambudvipa.

Digambars settled on this hill with its 3 rocky peaks in early times. It is believed 35,000,000 monks including Ganadharas Varadutta & Sagardutta attained moksh here. Two hillocks Kotishila & Siddhashila hv shrines with idols of Tirthankar Neminath & Mallinath dated VS 1292

Kumarapal Pratibodha of Somaprabhacharya composed in VS 1241 states the local Buddhist king Veni Vatsaraja & Jain monk Khaputacharya built a temple for Yakshi Tara & thus the town was named Tarapur. There are ancient Buddhist caves Jogida ni Gufa that has relics of 4 Buddhas.
