1/ Hopkins police on Friday arrested a suspect in two separate burglaries of occupied dwellings.
We've previously posted Efrain Almestica, 08/23/1988, who was booked on 12 felony + other warrants. New charges are expected in the Hopkins burglaries.
.
2/ You will recall Efrain Almestica from this classic video when he rammed into a Bloomington apartment building while trying to flee police late last year.
.
3/ That Bloomington case is one of the open felony/other warrants under which Almestica has been jailed, among numerous other cases from Edina, Richfield, Minneapolis and Minnetonka involving multiple burglary, multiple fleeing, auto theft and obstruction.
4/ Almestica has FOUR prior felony convictions.
ALL FELONIES STAYED.
In December 2021, Hennepin County Judge Tamara Garcia stayed three felonies.
That was AFTER Almestica had just been recently charged in the above Bloomington apartment crash and several other cases.
.
5/ Another felony conviction was stayed in February of this year by Washington County Judge Francis Green III.
Again, that stay of imposition was granted despite NUMEROUS open felony cases stretching back to at least 2020.
6/ Last September, Almestica was bailed out of jail by... you guessed it... @MNFreedomFund in the above WashingtonCo case. AGAIN, despite the fact that Almestica had NUMEROUS open serious and violent felony cases.
**1st degree burglary is a violent crime, he had 2 open.
7/ Efrain Almestica has been charged in at least two other 1st degree burglary (occupied dwelling) cases from June and July of this year (prior to the new Hopkins burglaries), AFTER recently being granted stays on four felonies.
1st degree burglary is a violent crime.
8/ It's time to end the Minnesota Freedom Fund.
It's time to end bail and zero bail for violent and repeat offenders.
It's time to end stayed sentences for repeat and violent offenders.
@HopkinsPolice 10/
Efrain Almestica was charged on Monday with two new felony counts of 1st degree burglary of an occupied dwelling in the new Hopkins burglary cases. He remains in custody on $250,000 bail.
Serious crash on 694 over the river. Lanes are shut down, traffic is being diverted and it sounds like reconstruction is requested.
Started before 6:30 p.m.
.
Sounds like it may have been a motorcycle going over 100 mph.
Medical examiner was requested. The subject had no pulse and blood coming from multiple lacerations.
