Dont watch the show. If you do, give it the garbage rating it deserves, voice your concerns like this, and dont boost or support the show, creators, or platform. If you dont see a problem or defend it, leave.
I'm not trying to censor anyone. Just know that you vote with your views, your money, and your words.
And there are just clear messages and trends I just cant stand for.
I've never read the books but Game of Thrones was bad in this regard too. Maybe not as bad (maybe? Idk I quit watching GoT early on) but still bad. Is this a GRRM thing or do people thing it needs to be gross and awful as a TV adaptation?
If you want epic, cinematic fantasy go watch #Sandman on @netflix. It is beautiful, poetic, epic and inclusive. I WILL continue to simp for @MasonAPark's Desire.
If you want historic fiction in telvision HotD is not it. Thats fantasy. Go watch #OurFlagMeansDeath on HBO Max. It is wholesome and has queer represention and pirates were historically gay.
But if its too silly or you want some grittier history go watch #BlackSails. It is grittier and nore graphic but does have queer pirates and powerful women
Warning this one does have some sexual violence. Its still a better choice than HotD though, because it doesnt fetishize it
Or go watch the Witcher. Fantasy. Jaskier is totally pining after Geralt. Yennefer and Ciri are badasses who wont let other people define them
Plus Jaskier, Yennefer, and Geralt are seriously attractive. Geralt's most problematic trait is being yired and frustrayed which...same.
Or go read a book.
Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and Wrath Goddess Sing by Maya Dean for a queer (gay) narrative of Achilles and Patroclus and a queer (trans) narrative.
The latter does deal with heavy topics. War, violence, and transmisogony. The difference is the voice
HotD is for men to fantasize about violence and sex and violent sex. Its a violent misogynistic fetishist fantasy.
Wrath Goddess Sing is a tranfemme lamentation. I've not experienced it on full however and thus am not the best spurce for details.
Or go read Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. Fantasy. Female protags. Queer romance. Very wholesome.
Or go read Sandman by Neil Gaiman (but also watch the show).
Full disclosure: I havent fully experienced all of these. Any media or fandom will have people who love it and hate it and disagree Controversies can spring up unexpectedly. And I'm still learning and experiencing and understanding transfemininity, womanhood, and queerness.
I cannot seperate queerness from womamhood because they are linked womens rights and queer rights and the proper representation of both are very much linked. But also my experiences with womanhood and my experiences with queerness are at their core very much linked.
If you have any other recommendations, objections, questions, concerns, or suggestions please do drop them in this thread. Be civil, be respectful, fvck bigots.
This is a big factor to misogyny, transphobia & queerphobia in media
People have sex. In many different ways & many different kinds of partnerships. There are nonsexual intimate relationships. But cishet men dominate hollywood and the voices of women and queer folx get silenced
Normalizing sex, normalizing LGBTQ relationships & identities, normalizing nonsexual intimate relationships, combating the way sex is portrayed in media as "for the guys", tearing down stigma, catering to wider audiences, & empowering women and queer folx is the way forward.
Not just to a more inclusive, respectful society but also to richer and more diverse stories, media, and cinema.
Heres a video covering the issue from the guy they tried to blame (its fucking crazy):
Basically a crowdfunded monster taming game decided to be a crypt-0 game, not market it as such, not mention that at all on steam because steam doesnt allow that, say "making games is hard", hire WAY too much staff, blame streamers and "the nature of crypt-0, then no refunds
