What a busy week it was at #Gamescom Looking back at my photos and it’s already my 11th year taking shots of the Dom. A wrap
/ Met a lot of great teams from all over Europe and were really excited that many of them are actively seeking #web3.
/ Unlike the many teams in Asia trying to create #web3 through building massive #mmorpgs, many European teams are more focused on strategy aspect and ugc
/ Content can’t be massively produced themselves as the teams are in general smaller, and as a result they focus more on composability. This thinking leads them to be more creative on the design of the game rather than just building bigger and better.
/ Many games with #ugc were built in EU. Always excited to see teams trying to build something completely new and we’ll see more of this with the new weapons web3 provide.
/ Every team rethinking their #NFT sales strategy after the market correction, and focusing much more on the ownership rather than earning aspect. Many are thinking of how to create a game that involves a lot of trading. They are all saying they don’t want to use the term #p2e
/ Happy that there is excitement about our new blockchain #XPLA that we were developing, and said there needs to be a gaming chain built by game devs. Our narrative of being content focused and building more around gaming resonated pretty well.
/ They were saying what happens to the Korean industry happens soon in Europe and they were getting prepared. They loved the fact they could build things out together and talk more deeply about it.
/ So great to see teams like @stardust @venly_io @ironsource were also actively meeting developers to fill in their needs from transitioning from a web2 to web3 company. Need to add ours to the list in addition to the @0xPolygon, @solana, @Immutable that they support!
/ There’s going to be a lot of new categories of interesting tools and products for game devs that will be built by all of these parties.
/ If Finland used to be hot in the mobile game dev scene, seeing more companies talk about Turkey where the east and west connect. These companies on the border have mixed cultures and know how to make great global hits. With the war situation happening, many devs moved in too.
/ Went to our @summonerswarapp #TourOfEurope event. One of the reasons why this game is running for the past 8 years actively is due to our amazing community. Many here were playing from the beginning and made so many friends along the way. Best way to have fun!
/ Finally thought more about decentralization since Germany is one of the examples of it in real life. With no center like London or Paris, interestingly most of the corporates and federal centers are all spread out. Discussions on the pros and cons
/ Definitely coming back next year! #gamescom2022
