@3rdworldnetwork@harjeet11@JFaleiro12 Need to be refreshed & tailored to be focussed to Pakistan right now - but there are some general directions based on years of evidence from disasters across South Asia, & the world, about how & why to provide a gender responsive approach to disaster relief & rehabilitation.. 2/?
The women's movement in Pakistan (read @pind_wave@Tooba_Sd & so many more) are absolutely right in their approach to gender-responsive support &protection to affectees. So many super well-meaning ppl (usually men) who will make important decisions during this time which... 3/?
@pind_wave@Tooba_Sd Could have long-term impacts on resilience of the poorest & marginalised people across Pakistan. These could be positive impacts, or unintentionally quite negative. There's so much evidence I could share but this report has simple & effective advice which can be localised... 4/?
@pind_wave@Tooba_Sd E.g. social protection. We know from @ayeshasiddiqi12's important work that the Watan card in 2010/11 provided life-saving protection for millions. Social protection needs to be prioritised by Pakistan government going forward & it must be designed so women& girls can access it
Local authorities & NGOs must use gendered approach when providing relief & care. E.g. basics like designing relief camps to have women & children only areas for bathing/WC. 'Family unit' areas are not sufficient. This is critical because women & children get exposed to violence
Women & girls face very specific serious health risks in floods. Need to provide access to emergency obstetric & gynaecological care very early in disasters. This gets devalued by male decision-makers but should not. Also - children, esp, need some psychosocial support as...
...trauma of displacement can affect their entire lives. Research has shown that trauma experienced in disasters can affect several generations through 'epigenetics'
Anyway since this paper focussed on broader climate-induced 'migration', I share resources on gender &disasters...
in fact @UCL_GD has already done a fabulous job of compiling a reading list

2. 81% think we need a societal transformation: changing economies, how we travel, live, produce, consume 3. 72% agreed that people most affected should have more of a say in decisions about climate solutions 4. Lowest agreement that climate impacts on inequalities were in the UK
5. 58% of respondents agreed that richer nations should provide #LossandDamage, financing to countries on the frontlines of climate impacts - with only 13% in disagreement. This is particularly significant.
