Trump's threats represent a rare failure of his lies to give him an escape route with his supporters. Since the Mar-A-Lago search broke the lies have evolved: illegal, they planted evidence, he declassified docs, they're his, have failed to keep the outer rings in line. 2/
As Trump's grip loosens, even slightly, he and his circle will make the idea of prosecution more and more egregious to the #UltraMAGA faithful. It's also a dare to DOJ to move ahead with a prosecution: whatever happens post-indictment will be Biden's fault. Trump warned them. 3/
The fear such words and actions instill in the normies is a bonus feature of this act. They're happy to have you scared, worried, and concerned about what an indictment means. They want you to ask, "Is it really worth it?" Yes, it is. 4/
January 6th has proven to Trump, Tucker, Bannon, Miller, et al, that GOP leaders will NOT stand up to Trump, nor speak denounce violence. They’re sympathizers and cynics. McCarthy, McConnell, Hawley, DeSantis, will stay silent when it’s bad and only whisper when it’s safe. 5/
Most desperately want to be the heir to Trump’s movement (breaking – they won’t be) and are more scared of losing their shot at sweeping up MAGA for themselves than standing up for the Republic. 6/
It’s not just pols, who make this possible. Big financiers – the Schwabs, Schwartzmans, Uilheins, and Griffins say they’re just standing up for “traditional” Republican values but they’re not. They sit at the same table as Greene, Gaetz and the Camp Auschwitz guy. 7/
All of the front groups #UltraMAGA employs, the American Conservative Union, Turning Point USA, the Conservative Partnership Institute, Heritage Foundation, and NRA are active participants in each phase of Trump’s actions. They want a world all their own 8/
This cannot allow us to discount what we see before us: Lack of imagination from people like me, helped get us into this situation. We cannot make the same mistake. 9/
