When the CPS worker investigated us in our home this year, she ended her interrogation of me by asking me if I had any questions.
I did. Quite a few, actually. Like "How do you sleep at night" and "Show me in the Constitution where any of this is legal."
Buckle up. Angry 🧵:
Instead, I looked her in the eye, steadied my shaky voice, and asked her if she knew how many kids in custody of @TexasDFPS died since 2020.
"I dont know," she said.
"At least ONE HUNDRED," I told her.
I continued:
"How many MORE children are going to suffer and DIE, because employees like you are wasting valuable, scarce resources terrorizing families like mine for doing nothing more than loving our transgender kids unconditionally?"
She didn't have an answer for me.
It's no secret that @TexasDFPS has been an absolute shitshow for YEARS now. Kids are sleeping under desks, getting lost in the system, and are dying due to neglect from all the adults in their life — including their CPS caseworker.
More than 2000 DFPS employees have quit since @GregAbbott_TX and @KenPaxtonTX issued their illegal edict against trans inclusive families. TWO THOUSAND fewer caseworkers just this year, in an agency that was already understaffed, underfunded, and overworked.
Mark my words: more children will die from this. And it won't be just trans kids who die by suicide from being told they don't belong anywhere. It will be the most vulnerable children already in CPS custody, who will die from *actual* abuse and neglect.
Shame on @GregAbbott_TX, @KenPaxtonTX and anyone who supports them. (Yes, you 🪞) Remember their role in the collapse of a government agency, the tearing apart of loving families, and the death of CHILDREN. All of this happened on their watch, and due to their actions directly.
This tweet... well, it struck a nerve. I'm glad, actually. I've been screaming for help here in TX for years & no one's been listening. We're here now because we keep letting these douchecanoes like Abbott and Paxton get away with it.
And for those of you who have 30 minutes, this interview on @whatfreshpod is an in depth convo on what we're facing and how we need ALL YALL to STEP UP to keep these kids safe and alive. I'm really proud of it and hope you'll take the time to listen:
To be clear: we are NOT the only family who has endured this. We are just the most visible one. We speak out to protect our trans inclusive family and theirs too.
to parents of trans kids across the country, if i can recommend one thing to work on today (besides hugging your babies harder than ever) it's to start building a "safe folder"
a safe folder contains important items like your child's medical and legal records (vaccination records, court documents/passports/etc showing their legal name if it's been changed).
also include letters from trusted people like neighbors, your child's principal, clergy, etc that talk about what a wonderful parent you are.
hey, everyone. mom of a trans kid here in TX. thanks so much for reaching out, but i have a huge, important ask (thread coming):
PLEASE stop tweeting that families like mine need to flee the state. OPINIONS are not laws. @KenPaxtonTX can't invent new laws. legislatures do that, and #txlege failed in 2021 to make loving trans kids a punishable offense.
STOP PUTTING THIS IMPETUS ON PARENTS OF TRANS KIDS.
instead, tell voters to get their asses to the polls. it's primary season here in texas and this is nothing more than a political stunt by @KenPaxtonTX and @GregAbbott_TX to win votes. don't let them get away with it.
A brief civics lesson (esp for @KenPaxtonTX): State AG's don't DECLARE laws. They UPHOLD them. The #txlege tried making "care for a trans child = child abuse" a law, but failed. Therefore, caring for trans kids is NOT illegal, and Ken Paxton can fuck off.
Also, and this is important: I KNOW HE KNOWS THIS. I *literally* asked him when he was a dinner guest in my home if he could stop anti-trans bills. His answer = "I don't make the laws."
He KNOWS he can't do this. This is him exploiting CHILDREN to win a primary. That's it.
Providing care to trans children is NOT illegal, no matter what one old dinosaur of a politician says, kids. @KenPaxtonTX can't just make up a law because he doesn't like what the current law is. You'd think a state attorney general would know this.🤷♀️
