In this week’s edition, we will cover –
- Teams to Target
- Keepers Delight
- Options in Defence
- Midfield Debate
- Forwards Headache
- Captaincy Debate
Manchester City, Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool are clearly the teams to target while picking players this GW based on data from @drafthound
Brighton & Brentford attack are also good shouts while data suggests avoiding Everton & Villa!
Our point of view –
If you are looking to Wildcard after GW8, do go through this image shared by @FPLOsama .
We can clearly see that Brighton attackers should be targeted for the next 3 games along with Nottingham and Newcastle defence.
Keepers Delight
With fixtures now coming thick and fast the only player from the best defence in the league who is least prone to rotation is Ederson. They now face a Villa side who have not been in good form with most of their attackers struggling (4 goals in 5 games)
Henderson is the man of the moment and the most in-form keeper. He ranks 1stfor saves/90 and goals prevented and now faces a Bournemouth side who have the worst xG so far and will be low on confidence after their performance against Liverpool.
Brighton have not kept a clean sheet in their last 6 meetings vs Leicester. On the other hand, Leicester have a tendency to find a way to score & have scored in each of their games so far. Just like last week, we feel you can avoid Sanchez for one more week.
Leeds have not started well defensively and have conceded in 4 out of their 5 games so far. To add to this, Brentford have been really good at home and have scored 6 goals in 2 games and are in Top 2 for big chances created (14 in 5 games) We would be avoiding Meslier yet again.
Options in Defence
Cancelo delivered yesterday, as expected. He was subbed off early which could mean he should start the game again this weekend.
Keeps on taking forward positions ✅
Best defence in the league ✅
James was kept out of the Saints game on Tuesday as a precaution and has already been seen back in the training pictures yesterday. He is now well rested & plays against a West Ham side who just can’t figure themselves out. We feel James should have a good outing this GW.
Forest will be facing a Bournemouth side who have already conceded 16 goals. Neco ranks 1st for threat amongst & shots taken & 3rd for xGi among defenders. BOU have also conceded most chances through their left flank & haven’t scored in 4/5 games (xG of 0.37 against Wolves)
Spurs have been solid defensively as are most Conte teams. They are in bottom 3 for xG Conceded, 2 clean sheets in 4 games & a total of 4 goals conceded. Considering the fixture congestion, we feel that Sanchez is the safest best in the Spurs defence while Romero is still injured
Robbo has not been his usual self this season. He is playing more like a forward body than a creator which suited his game earlier. Most of the chances are coming in from the right flank. With the coming fixture congestion, we feel he might be rotated with Tsimikas & can be sold
Midfield Debate
KDB was benched on Wednesday which makes it almost certain for him to start this weekend. He was first for big chances created and assists in the first 4 GWs. KDB will be crucial to break the defence such as Villa & we suggest to hold him atleast for this game.
Brighton have started really well this season. They rank 4th for xG in the league & now face a Leicester side who have already conceded 10 goals so far. Leicester have conceded most chances from their right and Trossard (7th for threat among midfielders) could benefit from this.
Kulu has been a better asset to own compared to Son who has not looked anything like last season so far. He comes at a cheaper price and has 1 goal & 2 assists in first 5 games and only behind KDB and Trent in terms of xA. Fulham have conceded 13 chances from their left flank ✅
With the main man - Rodrigo out, we don't have the confidence in investing in Leeds attack anymore. Brentford away is also a tough fixture for attackers. We will be avoiding their Mids.
With Nunez back next match, Diaz’s influence gets affected as we saw in matches before the red card. We feel with Wildcard coming into play soon, we can look to attack the fixtures by bringing in Brighton attackers instead.
Forwards headache
Fulham are currently amongst the worst 3 sides in terms of xGC in the league have conceded the most chances from the middle. Kane is in form currently with 4 goals in first 4 GWs and top 3 for xG. Looks like a perfect fixture for kane to shine
Leicester concede high number of their chances through the centre as well. Brighton are 4th in terms of xG and Welbeck ranks 3rd in terms of creativity among the forwards in the PL. Considering the defensive stats Leicester possess, this could be a good home game for Welbeck.
Brentford have been really good at home so far this season(6 goals in 2 home games). Now they face a poor defensive side in Leeds. Toney ranks first in terms of creativity & 2nd for big chances created among forwards this season& is owned by only 18.3% of the managers currently.
Fulham have not been good offensively away from home. Now they face a Spurs side who are in top 3 for xG Conceded and have so far only allowed 4 goals in 5 games. If you could, we would advice avoiding Mitrovic this week.
Villa have looked poor in attack this season and a fixture against the best defensive side isn't going to help Watkins. He continues to be on our avoid list.
Captaincy Debate
Sir Harry Kane has had a dreamy start to this season, unlike his previous seasons. He now plays a Fulham sidewho are in bottom 3 in terms of xG so far. He is probably the best captaincy option this week.
Haaland has taken the baton from Salah for being the FPL King (or has he not?). An absolute beast of a striker who can punish anyday on his day (and his days come most often than not) Villa have been conceding a lot of chances through the middle.
Salah absolutely loves playing against Everton (4 goals and 1 assist in 8 games). He finally looks to have got some form to carry into the derby and we would back the Egyptian king to deliver yet again. Perma captain fighting hard.

Let's. Get. Started.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City
xG (2.09 vs 1.64)
- One of the worst performances that we have personally seen from City for a long, long time. Semenyo and Evanilson helped give Bournemouth their first ever league win against City after being defeated heavily in the last couple of seasons. City's 32-game PL unbeaten run also comes to an end after the disastrous game. There are many theories on how to beat City but Bournemouth chose the one where they were not defensive, yet be audacious, hardworking and were very fun to watch.
- Bournemouth have been superb at home, winning their third home game in the row, having already beaten Arsenal. Semenyo was as always the most dangerous player on the field and he turned to fire in at the far post inside the first 10 mins. He is an absolute hold in terms of FPL with good fixtures coming. Evanlison added a second to win it for the hosts. They were solid in defense and held on for a big win and need to be discussed more going forward as they aren't a team to be targeted in defence any more. Kerkez had a brilliant game and assisted both goals. He was leaving a lot of space for City wingers though but they couldn't exploit that. They could have had more, a lot more in the first half catching City on the counter. They pressed so well and recoegnised when to jump and when to sit back and thoroughly deserved the win.
- City were toothless in attack with little to no creativity from anyone in their attack except Nunes and Doku who did well after coming on. They had 18 shots in total with only 4 on target and missed all 4 big chances. Haaland was nowhere to be spotted until the last few mins where he looked like scoring and hit the post as well. Foden also came close to scoring in the ending mins as his shot just went past the Bournemouth goal. Gvardiol, as always, was higher up on the left flank and scored another good header from Gundogan's cross. Walker was a disaster - probably his worst game ever. He was easily being outrun by the Bournemouth wingers and his passing and position was nowhere better. This is good news though for Rico Lewis owners. Doku and Savinho were on the bench which means they would be in contention for the next game. KDB was also on the bench but looked to be not ready at all as he didn't even warm up during the game. Without Rodri, City lack a holding presence in the midfield and it was clearly visible. Nunes had a good game but lacks 1 on 1 finishing. Defence just keeps on conceding and aren't fit too. In short, a terrible game from the champions.
Manchester United vs Chelsea
xG (2.06 vs 1.68)
- A boring game with limited opportunities and yet another draw for the most drawn fixture ever. Not a great performance from either team and a lot of mistakes from both. Two goals in 5 mins brought some interest in an otherwise sleepy game. It was a fair scoreline in the end to be honest.
- Hojlund had an interesting game and was in the thick of the action. He won the penalty for United but that was the only support he got from the ref. He did try and create opportunities but lacked the final ball which was frustrating to see. Bruno was invisible again until the goal (a penalty) and Hojlund had to drop in a false 9 role to help the wingers. We aren't sure why the FPL community is jumping on Bruno suddenly after a poor performance by him. It's very rare that we say these things about Bruno but sorry he isn't a good asset to own from United. He has been pathetic in the last few games. The good assets to own from United are Garnacho and now Hojlund who will be the target man for the new manager as well. Defence was solid until the brilliant goal from Caicedo and United will be downhearted not to take all 3 points. Mazraoui is a great player to own in FPL and was brilliant once again. Martinez was good and Casemiro played well too. Ugarte had an okayish game.
- Palmer ghosted for the entire game playing against Casemiro and Ugarte. He was given no space by the midfield duo as he got against Newcastle and had to drop too deep to connect player and letting United midfield get set up. And as we know if Palmer is stopped, Chelsea are limited in attack as well. Only Neto showed some moments of brilliance from them and was looking to get in behind. Madueke needs to be taken off the starting 11 soon as he has really struggled for a while now. Up against Mazraoui, he couldn't go past him even once. Sanchez had another poor game and it was his mistake that cost Chelsea the goal. James had yet another start and had the most touches in the final 3rd in the first half. Interestingly, Gusto was subbed for Cucurella and James stayed on.

- DCL Replacements
With FPL managers growing more and more frustrated about the lack of returns from Everton's Dominic Calvert Lewin, let's look at some of the most ideal replacements for him in your FPL teams:
With 1G & 1A in his first 90 mins back from injury, Wissa picked up from right where he left off. Brentford’s attack is now 2nd for Big Chances Created & with easy fixtures over the next 4 GWs, Wissa at just 6m & 4.2% ownership looks like a fantastic differential option.

- Manchester City combination
Usual business for City as they start the season strong despite key injuries ranking 3rd for xG, 2nd for xGC, and creating 19 big chances. With great fixtures in the next 5 GWs, the focus shifts to the best City trio to own for this run.
Haaland is in the form of his life! He’s in full beast mode - leading in xG, nPxG, smashing 10 goals, and firing off 5.2 shots per game! With a dream run of fixtures ahead, and 3 of the next 5 against Bottom 10 xGC teams, another insane scoring streak feels inevitable.

- TEAMS TO TARGET
With a lot of managers wildcarding in GW6, let’s look at some of the teams who should feature in your teams, because of the great fixtures they have.
ARSENAL
The perfect swing for one of the top teams! Their fixtures from GW6 make their players, great options, especially on the WC.
Back-to-back home games vs promoted LEI & SOU followed by an away game at BOU is the launchpad towards maximising returns from their assets.

Let's. Get. Started.
Manchester City vs Arsenal
- A game of two halves. It started on a surprising note which none of us expected - both teams were going end to end and were matching the intensity. Rodri's injury didn't do City any good & Arsenal started to dominate.
- Trossard's red card affected the entire game & changed the approach as Arteta decided to become prime Mourinho Chelsea (minus leaving open spaces near their box every time) It was understandable as they were leading and were a man down. But you could just sense that a City goal would come with City having more than 85% possession in second half.
- Rico Lewis didn't start which favoured Gvardiol & he was as attacking as we have seen him this season. Probably, Pep wanted to limit Martinelli but it was Walker's (and the ref's :P) mistake that led to the Arsenal goal. Whenever Walker starts with Gvardiol, it benefits Gvardiol as an FPL asset. Wouldn't be put off as a Lewis owner, still a great pick.
- Foden was benched again and he still doesn't become an option on Wildcard. We will have to wait and watch until his first start which suggests that going Haaland is the only way to enter the City attack (which makes sense as well as he is at the end of all attacks). He taunted every one who didn't captain him with yet another well taken goal.
- Gabriel is a giant on set pieces and Raya is a massive keeper. He got 9 saves yesterday as well and kept Arsenal in the game. Gabriel + Raya + Saka is the way to go for Arsenal.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth
- Liverpool were back again showing everyone why they are such a dangerous team and their attack is a must have. They were absolutely at it and Diaz is slowly becoming a bargain at 7.6M with yet another brace. Yes, their rotation might become a headache but it will be very difficult to drop a player in such a form. Salah had some chances in the second half as well but he either tried to attempt a pass to Nunez or just couldn't finish (a couple of times)
- TAA owners have Kelleher to thank to who made a world class save to deny Trent's own goal which could have taken away TAA's 4 points plus 2 for own goal as well as Salah's clean sheet point. Kelleher was great in the entire second half as Liverpool did give away quite a few chances. TAA still very close to essential which is attacking output & we need to have him in our thoughts on wildcard.
- Bournemouth were very good in the second half and could have easily scored. They are now 5th for xG in the league with 3 great fixtures coming for them. Semenyo who was central once again to most of their attacks will be a great option at 5.6M.

- Wissa replacements
With Wissa injured in the last game & out for ~2 months, we need to find a solution. Let's look at some of the options.
For the 31% of the managers who don't own Haaland yet, the best replacement for Wissa is ERLING HAALAND. It's that simple.
