Ladies, young & old, a little test for you:
Q: Where is the part of your brain that deals with toilet-cleaning?
Q:Or shoes?
Q: or headache generation?
A: all identified in the slide a @UofGlasgow neurology Prof shows medical undergrads 1/ heraldscotland.com/business_hq/20…
Strangely enough, the male brain was not used. Imagine being a female student in that class? We imagine many of us have been in the position, where our lecturers, bosses or colleagues have tried to belittle & humiliate us. Quite often we stay quiet because of the 2/
imbalance of power, or being outnumbered, or you're shocked into silence. We wonder what message your male peers receive as your "superior" broadcasts the message that it's okay to make sexist, lazy stereotypical slurs about women. 3/
Life can be tough enough for women & we know that it definitely is in medicine. When we're short of all healthcare professionals, what is @TheBMA doing about stats like these?
We're pretty sure that if 90% of male doctors had experienced sexism it would be addressed years ago 4/
Except, we know women don't tend to grope their colleagues or the power to deny opportunities in the workplace (& evidence suggests female bosses don't do this when they can). Gents, read these stats & just imagine what a workplace like this would be like to work on. 5/
@Scot_Feminists members have all experienced some form of sexism in life, whether they're cleaners, doctors, engineers, teachers or carers. This behaviour doesn't just happen in hospitals or surgeries, or even just in medical undergrad's lecturers. 5/
One member sat through an (almost entirely male) class as the Prof taught them how to pick up women. Another was told they received good grades because they must be sleeping with the male staff. This was the day to day stuff of our lives but we'd hope it had been quashed 6/
Clearly not. As we stated in the article, we expect @UofGlasgow to stop this sexist nonsense in ALL classrooms if we want our female undergrads to understand they are equals & deserve respect from staff, peers & patients. 7/
We're happy to help any pupils, students, parents or even teaching staff if they ever see sexist nonsense like this in their schools or universities if they don't feel able to challenge it themselves. #WomenWontWheesht

Once upon a time a group of well meaning people decided to create a new role - Period Dignity Officer. It was intended to, well we're not quite sure but the reports range from fighting period poverty (but only period poverty?) to organising 1/ 12ft.io/proxy?q=https%…
the distribution of period products across the region under the new Scottish legislation (Period Products Free Provision (Scotland) Act 2021, which does not mean free products for all women, despite the PR, sorry!) on to menopause guidance. Quite the role eh? 2/
The well meaning group decided to put someone in the role that had never experienced periods themselves, or the menopause, and perhaps not even poverty. They decided to give the role to a male. And the non-male people got mightily annoyed by this, unsurprisingly. 3/
Scottish Feminist Network sends support and solidarity to Standing For Women @StandingforXX , 22nd June 2022 1/ #WomenWontWheesht
Women gathered in Bristol at the weekend to discuss their sex-based rights protected in the Equality Act 2010, only to be met with an intimidating, baying mob of masked men who aggressively threatened, harassed & abused them. The baying mob went as far as to follow them to a pub,
where the women were trapped inside.
You would be forgiven for thinking those scenes were from some backward country, where women are viewed as lesser beings for men to use and abuse at will. Sadly, this is the UK in 2022. 3/
Yesterday, a group of women held a stall in Aberdeen to talk to the public about the legislation the Scottish Gov are proposing that will allow males to legally change their sex to female, and access female single-sex spaces. #WomenWontWheesht 1/
And as if to demonstrate the concerns of the women, a group of men decided to protest against the women's right of free speech, to try and intimidate & silence them (reader, they failed!).
Do these men really think that by turning up with a flag, and standing in front of these 2/
women that their concerns about the new law will disappear? That the women will stop explaining to the public what is happening? That the women will stop writing to their MSPs in advance of the draft Bill? That women will wheesht? 3/
The 25 Deeds of Christmas. Sharing actions from feminists over the past year, it’s been a busy one and we’re preparing to #SleighTheGRA! #WomenWontWheesht the fight goes on.
Day 2 in the #WomenWontWheesht house and we wanted to give you more information about what we will be doing to contribute to the fight for women’s rights in Scotland. But first we need to send our thanks to @shirleysascot 1/ #WomenWontWheesht
There have been women's organisations set up to support each other from time immemorial, to support with domestic violence, childcare, sexuality, crafting and fighting the patriarchy (hell yeah!). In Scotland, there have been many groups specifically set up to address 2/
the worrying issue of the undermining or removal of women's legal rights, rights which were obtained only because of the suffragettes and suffragists that had been campaigning for equality of rights (image from 1908) 3/
