- Joseph Bryan, Chief Sustainability Officer & Senior Advisor for Climate for @DeptofDefense
These natural disasters drive demand for responses, but also hit on departmental capabilities. Bryan cites hurricane season, flooding and record heatwaves at home and abroad.
And now, shifting beyond the US: Our next panel starts with a conversation about European defense and NATO’s next test. Led by Sebastian Sprenger (@sprengkopf_dc). Follow along here ⬇️
@sprengkopf_dc "I think, what we will see, is more gifting from both sides," regarding money and weapons sent to Ukraine by international governments.
- Mark Newton, Minister Counsellor Defence of the British Embassy, @UKinUSA
"We in Germany figured out that training is one of the key success points," especially on artillery after Germany gave Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers to Ukraine.
- Rear Adm. Axel Ristau, defense attaché of the German Embassy defensenews.com/global/europe/…
.@maeday22 is back! This time, with a panel about the future of the @USMC, with insights from Gen. Eric Smith, assistant commandant for the U.S. Marine Corps. #DNConf#usmc
“We need to procure things that make Marines safer in executing their mission.”
“If you don’t like it as an adversary, we should do more of it,” Smith said of leading technology and its role in setting a battlefield advantage.
➡️ Next, the state of @USArmy: Jen Judson (@JenJudson) will talk with the Hon. Gabe Camarillo, under secretary of the Army, about the future of modern warfare. #DNConf#army
Regarding details left to be ironed out for AFC and modernization, “We’ve got a tremendous amount of momentum in our modernization portfolio,” Camarillo said.
And now: Hon. Erik Raven, under secretary of the Navy, chats with Megan Eckstein (@maeday22) on the future of the @USNavy. #DNConf
Combat credible forces is the #1 priority, Raven said. Also important, he said, was forging teamwork bonds and taking care of service members and their families.
Echoing observations from DoD’s LaPlante about supply chain issues, workforce shifts and new ways to work alongside industry leaders.
📣 Now welcoming: @ DeptofDefense Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, William LaPlante, and @defense_news Pentagon reporter Joe Gould (@reporterjoe).
For all things acquisitions, here we go:
"There are so many heroes in this country that worked through the pandemic ... we didn't skip a beat," said LaPlante in discussing defense workforce challenges.
"NNSA gave a mid-year increase to all employers," LaPlante said as an example of more the @DeptofDefense can do to help the erosion of buying power for wages.
