And now: Hon. Erik Raven, under secretary of the Navy, chats with Megan Eckstein (@maeday22) on the future of the @USNavy. #DNConf Image
Combat credible forces is the #1 priority, Raven said. Also important, he said, was forging teamwork bonds and taking care of service members and their families.
Echoing observations from DoD’s LaPlante about supply chain issues, workforce shifts and new ways to work alongside industry leaders.
“We’re in the process of making tough choices,” Raven said in balancing short term goals, long term projects and wrapping up the fiscal year.
Don’t look in stovepipes, Raven said, in understanding challenges from industry leaders as FY24 nears. The system can be hard to manage, but can produce great results when leaders are on same page, he said. Image
On recruiting shortfalls: Raven said goals are expected to be on target for this fiscal year, but the department says it has talked with recruiters who say propensity and ability to serve has declined. Better public outreach is needed, he said.
