What wud u like them to learn?
My 1st request is they read the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled Persons and all documents ( letters/inspections) between U.N. and Canada. That will change the way we are viewed we are not beggars we have

RIGHTS and entitlements as a Canadian person with a disability that we are being denied.

I wud like them to learn that to get odsp is very difficult sometimes taking years and ppl who get it are quite severely disabled. They cud read the last 10-15

It is not enuf to just do the diet if they are not still aware of the level of discrimination we face.

Canada's spending on social programs is one the lowest in developed nations. We are in essence bordering onto being a 3rd world country. This link is 2018 but we know pandemic and inflation has made it worse.

Odsp is not social assistance or welfare or ow. Because the United Nations recommended that Canada rethink its approach..so its more like these are disabled person rights and entitlments. A class of people protected by laws.

The recent changes of forcing hospital patients into nursing homes they dont choose affects the disabled as they live in ltc with seniors. However their odsp is $149 a mth. This must cover prescription surcharges, phone and all personal needs.

At $149 a month buying a box of Kleenex is a huge decision. just drug surcharges can exceed it.leaving them in debt to the pharmacy. They will never b able to save to move again when their chosen home becomes available.

Odsp 192 million
Drug benefit 137 million.

Odsp housing allowance is $497 . It is supposed to cover rent, heat, hydro, and apartment insurance.
But to rent at $497is impossible.

@CQualtro notified the United nations that she was setting up a covid 19 disability group. She did not tell them...she wud not implement recommendations. So the chance for ppl on odsp 2 get pandemic aid disappeared.

However a new law was implemented during pandemic. It went thru fast despite many objections. Who wud have thought death ( Maid) was a pandemic plan. Pwd frantic in need & insulted were told they had the right to die. United nations very concerned.

Desperately low incomes are prompting some pwd to opt for death. Our income is life or death in many ways.

Pwd r much more likely 2 b victimized. Assault, rape and robbery...& then that adds to their disability with ptsd, depression, physical impairment. Often related 2 poverty like unsafe housing icl. Sub housing buildings. Robbery may be 9f their meds.

Returning to school can be a crap shoot. U apply for osap for only tuition and books and contnue odsp and prescriptions. If u find u r too disabled to complete the semester odsp makes a overpayment for osap for every day not attended. Cont.

U paid 4 all your books & tuition on day 1.
So now odsp says u owe THEM 4 a % of the books/tuition because u did not complete a % of the semester. U R NOW PAYING THE GOVT BACK 2X FOR THE SAME STUFF. 1× to osap and 1x to odsp. Welcome to higher education. Takes years to pay off!

With family violence often after separation the kids are used as pawns. 1 parent may acquire custody because the other is on odsp/too poor to fight. Then custodial parent hands kids back to other parent but with no custody papers. Odsp parent too poor to fight for papers. Cont.

These become odsp " invisible children". Tho the odsp parent has the kids 100% of the time they are not counted. Odsp parent supports them on the single persons odsp rate. M.p.p. will do nothing about it. Odsp parent does not get can. Child benefit and can b required to pay child

Support to the parent that does not have physical custody of children. CAS will not help but will threatened to remove children if they r not taken care of . Parent gets malnutrition because food goes to the kids. Doctor asks 4vspecial diet allowance but its turned down cause

Its not on the list of condition that odsp says requires a special diet. Lawyers will not work after legal aid/ assets are gone. Your disability and medications can b used against u in court. Like u can't teach the kid to skate!

1st reading. So many pwd dont believe this will ever happen. Cerb took weeks to get to the able bodied employable Canadian moneyp. So we no govt can move mountains if they wanted to. They have just not wanted to. Funneling more ppl to Maid.

Some pwd have had to go private to get homecare and pay out of pocket because in some areas u can't get one the regular route. This is a Essential service for pwd or its off to a ltc home

Thank you @LiseVaugeois for attempting this. I realize it is a dramatic reduction for u at $45 a week. Sadly its more than many of us have.
I can hear some stress in your voice, most of us are stressed everyday. Deep poverty is so bad for health.
