Verschwörungstheorien kamen nicht zu kurz - "der Amerikaner will unsere Freundschaft mit Russland verhindern". "great reset", Pyramidensymbolik und auch der "ÖXIT" (EU Austritt) darf nicht fehlen...

Die Herausforderung bei russischer Desinformation über die Ukraine ist, dass nur ein Teil ad hoc von der Mehrheit hier erkannt wird, z.B. glaubt kaum jemand, dass es sich nur um eine "Spezialoperation" hndelt und es keinen Krieg gibt.🧵
Andere Mythen wie das angebliche Russischverbot, der "ethnische Konflikt" oder die russische Version der Ereignisse im Donbas seit 2014 bekommen weniger Widerstand oder werden gar geglaubt und sogar verbreitet.

Dabei verhält es sich wie mit "Chemtrails", es ist nichts dran...
Die Sozialen Medien sind ein ideales Biotop für solche Falschdarstellungen, die auch deshalb hier auf sehr fruchtbaren Boden treffen, weil so wenige Menschen einen Bezug zur Ukraine haben, Ukrainer kennen oder gar das Land besucht haben.

Ukraine is a friendly and respectful neighbour towards the EU since years. Already in 2019 79% of Ukrainians had a favorable view about the EU (PEW poll). The EU advisory mission (EUAM) in Kyiv supported Ukraine in fields like judiciary, security, human rights & good governance
Not only political parties but also civil society is very active in promoting the goal to become a member of the EU. For Ukrainians, the EU is not only a symbol for security, it also stands for necessary reforms, human rights and a stable democracy

Chernobyl, Ukraine Ende April 1986: die sowjetische Führung war für das Disaster verantwortlich. Danach versuchte man zu vertuschen, Berichte über schwere Schäden wurden als "westliche Propaganda" bezeichnet und Moskau verordnete, dass die 1. Mai Parade in Kyiv stattfinden muss
Georgien 1989: Demonstrantinnen und Demonstranten demonstrieren für die Wiederherstellung der Unabhängigkeit. Moskau schickt Sondereinheiten der sowjetischen Armee, sie setzen CN und CS Gas ein, über 21 Menschen sterben, darunter eine Schwangere.

The goal of Russian disinformation is to confuse us and create doubts to an extend until we are not sure what is right or wrong anymore and if our democracy, our way of life is even worth defending.

If someone reached that level, it can be a point of no return🧵
"I don't know what to believe anymore" "everybody is lying" these expressions are clear signs for that stage. Reality is just one of many "opinions" and "who really knows the truth"... often followed by "I am just asking questions"
Creating that state of mind in our societies is an old Soviet strategy.
Russia has decades of experience in subversive activity, the goal is to create a kind of apathy towards our democracy, if you are indifferent you don't see a reason to defend your country and your values.

I guess the reason is, it is almost impossible to keep track of all the disinfo-narratives, fake-stories and distractions produced by the Kremlin's propaganda machine. It seems to me, that some people think that after several lies, there must follow some truth, but that's wrong.
In some cases, if ideology and reality do not fit together at all, good old #whataboutism or #bothsidesism "helps" to solve the dilemma: "all sides are lying", "you can't trust anyone" . Indeed, it is a complex world, you can find lies everywere, but the extent is different.
