Kind of weird that non-Chasidish Orthodox Jews are defending Chasidish yeshivos’s right to raise ignoramuses, instead of blaming chassidim for violating the law so flagrantly that it attracts unwanted government attention.
With all the energy expended raging about how great yeshivos are and how bad the state is, every Jewish child could’ve been taught multiplication instead.
Also the hashtag #yeshivagate annoys me because I expect it to be about Gateshead Yeshiva whenever I see it

So, the arguing about the NYC piece is slowly subsiding. It feels good to be indignant about something, and thousands of Jewish children being denied an education is a good thing to be indignant about.
But I think it’s time for people outside that world to think a bit more.
If a chassidish couple from Brooklyn said “you know, we want our children to get a better education than we got, Modern Orthodoxy got it right, let’s switch”—how many of our communities would be ready to have them?
In how many MO communities could a family supported by people who work hard but don’t have advanced degrees and haven’t struck entrepreneurial gold afford housing? (And how many Conservative communities, for that matter)
